Well I remember you, but I think that was from one of the succession games on the stories forum (which seem to have disappeared now - that's a though people - how about a strategy forum sucession game
).
Plenty of good threads recently, especially the mini-tourney and Apolyton university ones. These are games that everyone plays from the same start and then compares notes on how the game deveoped. Playing and discussion these was pretty informative and entertaining.
Good threads to read:
"AU 101: Crowding and war": featuring lots of war.
"AU 102: All we're sayin' is give peace a chance": a game in which you're not allowed to build any military units at all!
"AU 103: Island hopping": AU game emphasising naval power
The MT IV thread (That's Mini-tourney IV, aka "Babylon and on...") where the game starts in with Babylon in the middle of the industrial age on a small island with a very small military, while everyone else is at the start of the modern age. Designed to have fun with modern era inter-continental invasions.
The various 'Alamo' threads (aka MT V) where the players start in a really hopeless position and see how long they can survive.
"So very cold (of the map generator)": Aeson mullahs the AI on deity from a seemingly impossible start position.
"The key to AI greatness": not strategy for humans exactly, but interesting.
""Must read" threads for newer players / posters" contains a list of good threads, some of which are quite recent and so you might not have seen. Has links to those threads (I'm too lazy to learn how to put links in myself).
