i dunno. good that it was settled, but i still haven't really forgiven them for '94...
this will only prolong my unhappiness and general weak fandom of all of them.

It makes me wonder if ESPN just got scooped, or was MSNBC just jumping the gun on the story. It looks like MSNBC did their report as they noticed the players coming out of the room with smiles on their faces, but no confirmation was officially given at that time.
I kind of hope that it's simply a matter of "high and mighty" ESPN getting scooped.
Next question... how many people really give a damn one way or another

While I cheer for both Chicago teams (and there hasn't been much to cheer about lately), I'm a hard core Cub Fan.
With the exception of what might be one of the best future starting pitching staffs in the league, there isn't a hell of a lot to like about the cubs this year. Oh, go Sammy... Maybe someday he will learn how play with minor aches and pains... For what he is being paid, he should be on the field unless he is dead...

and besides, i can't exactly cry for your team. ... the braves have i think the second highest payroll.

I may end up becoming a Cubs fan if I move out of the Boston area. I'm already used to the losing part.
Now, let's get back to more serious baseball matters, such as how far back the Devil Rays will finish the season. (They're already 39 back in the AL East, and around 35 back in the Wild Card race. Last year, they ended 34 and 40 games back, respectively.)

Didn't say that building a new ballpark would be easy, but it's the only chance they have to win. Just like the Red Sox will never win the WS as long as they play in Fenway.

Uhhhhh.... That's one of the few things that don't need to be changed...
We need new owners... a new manager... a new firstbase man... a new shortstop... a new thirdbaseman... a new catcher... plenty of relief pitching... a new closer... a new outfielder... but otherwise, the team is looking pretty good...

no, the bosox will always suck.
the cubs, on the other hand, definitely need retooling, as ming points out.
the braves are perfect, they just need to not sux0r in the post-season, and they also might want to deflate their heads a bit.

Ming you miss the point. Wrigley confines them in how there team is put together and performs. Only a new park will break them out from that. Wrigley is a joke, it unduly affects the play of the modern game for them to be successful playing in it 81 times a year.

Why would anyone want to replace Wrigley? The place is guaranteed to sell out every single game, even if the Cubs suck, because every fan in America wants to watch a game there. It would be crazy to replace it.

Yeah... perfect...
They remind me a lot of the Vikings and Bills... Close but no cigar. Granted, at least they've won. But they should have won FAR more World Series than they have.
Can you spell... C. H. O. K. E.

That's fine then. Play your 81, make your money and then stay home and watch the playoffs. You want to make money or win a World Series?

Ming, don't laugh.
It's a national tragedy.
ok, yes, it is funny, the damn braves just never seem to get there... oy. but they're still a great team... now that i think about it, maybe the strike should have happened--that way, the braves could have another successful year/season, rather than a unsuccessful year/postseason.

I disagree. Wrigley is not the problem. One might argue that the many day games they play is one. But it actually should be an advantage. They should be used to the "day game" schedule, while the other teams shouldn't be.

now that i think about it, there's a scary parallel...
fans == unlucky woman.
braves == great man outside of bed, but absolutely horrible in the end, unable to, ah, well, perform.

It's not an advantage enough since the visiting teams enjoy the other benefits of the field as well. But more to point is that the team is constructed with the view of playing in the park instead of playing good baseball. The Red Sox have the same problem.

Great teams win World Series... Above average teams choke... And teams like the Cubs just suck.

The above will get us faster to a World Series than a new ball park will. Last time I checked, the ball park never goes out to the mound or the plate
