CHANGES IN ADS - read on!
in short:
- one of the two 468x60 banners has been moved at the bottom of pages. that affects all sections and all forum styles(the ones of course that carried two banners)
- on the remaining 468x60 banner at the top, US visitors will be seeing some new ads, the result of our agreement with an ad network
more details will be posted in the about section

OK. Copied from the 'other' thread.
That flashing red banner will result in some epileptic fits.

Actual I prefer to have two banners on the top I already missed the second one. (It is much easier to ignore the one on the bottom.)
Instead of the second one I get now something like this (in Netscape 4.78):

Anyway I fixed the post above Marcos.

I'm using the default setting... and I'm getting pounded with pop up ads. Should I be using a different setting?
And yes, I know it sometimes changes, and I need to update my profile to correct it. But even after JUST doing that... more pop ups.

As I tried last time Mozzilla I had an big error message on the bottom of the browser in big read letters, that reduced the browser windows size. Actual Netscape 4.78 looks much better. The browser window looks bigger. The address line is much longer, because it has its own seperate line. And afterwards I tried Mozzilla the last time and I returned to Netscape 6.2 it screwed up the whole Apolyton forum, only removing everything from the cache helped. And Netscape 4.78 can display the size of this reply box according to my screen resolution correctly. The background of this reply box I am just using uses my windows document color and also all the bottons have the same color as my windows color.

Who needs a CD if one could download it, Marcos? Just go to Netscape and download there Netscape Communicator 4.79 (the English version) or Netscape Communicator 4.51 (the Greek version). (The link will lead you to the language selection screen.)

Oh and by the way that's how it the default-guest style looks if you use Opera, same problem after log in just in CTP2 default style.
Hope Opera will allow me to attach a file, as I tried it last time in Opera it didn't worked IIRC, but that was Opera 5 now it is Opera 6.04.
Edit: It worked. By the way Markos why I have to relog in if I want just edit my post, although I am logged in. (Oh and I don't use cookies.)

Yes but this problem was right there as I started the browser. It was on the bottom edge of the browser window itself and looked like a html fragment. Maybe I downloaded a wrong build, although it said it was version 1.0, but it was the version without the unzipper program, so I am waiting for version 1.1 final.

Interesting that I see those ads of Real Media (the banner I posted was actualy meant for America exclusively, too), and I thought my provider should be considered as a German one.
Schee: There are a lot of possibilities, to find out where you live, you don't brwose the internet anonymiously. First everyone browses with a unique IP address though the www. Of course usually your provider gives you everytime you log in a different IP address but the provider logs the address, and you can find out to which provider this IP address belongs. As the forum logs the IP addresses Markos just needs to ask your provider who uses this address at this time. But there are also other possibilities to find out something about your computer. If you browse your browser reveals itsself as IE 5.5 German version for example, it also reveals information about your operating system like Win 98, CPU ... This is usefull so that page designer can offer optimized versions of the pages for your browser and computer. Of course this can also be abused. Like: "Oh you can't view this page, because you don't uses the newest version of IE." and this guy gave me on his home page an error message. So I found that was worth some measures and revisited his page with Opera and use the Pretend as stupid IE 5.5 option.

Hmmm... Mozilla 1.1 Beta on Win XP and no problems with viewing Poly, except that the browser tends to cause the system to freeze completely. Anyway, I do recommend abstaining from the 1.1 Beta version, and instead get Mozilla 1.0 or Netscape 6.2. The preview release of 7.0 should be ok.
Martin,
Netscape Communicator 4.8 is the latest version of the 4 series.
Markos,
you can still download Netscape Navigator 2.0 if you want to, so geting 4.8 shouldn't be a problem at all.

our "country indentification" code is not highly sophisticated. it just looks at your dns. com and net domains are treated as US "locations"
martin, let me know if you get the ads now. it should take your isp as a non-US one

1.1 Final is out. Works great. Downloaded today, biggest change is that the icons are different and many of the bugs are killed. It also loads faster on my computer. But it should be good.

Thanks, tniem!
I must have been completely blind for the past 3 days 1.1 has been available for download, as there's a news bulletin about it on the front page at mozilla.org and I haven't noticed it. The point is that I use the site as my home page.

I still get the real media banners. The problem in Netscape 4.78 still exists. The odd thing is as I started today I saw no banners irrespective of the browser I used no banners in IE 5.5 in Nestcape 4.78, in Netscape 6.2 and in Opera, after reloading the pages several times the adds returned except the top banner in Netscape 4.78 that returned afterwrads the forum was up again. And in Opera the banners are still missing.

Sorry that I told you to much.
The language specification wouldn't work, because I could go to http://mozilla.org and download from there Mozilla 1.1 (the English version) and wouldn't download a language pack that would allow me to specify the preffered language as German of course I could also select US English, so over the brower I could fake it. By the way this post is written with Mozzilla 1.1 (English), actual I wanted to have an German version but I didn't check the link to long. So I end with the English version. Unfortunately the latest German version of Netscape Communicator is 4.78, not 4.8 I knew that there it is available in only in English. (Fortunatly I am not the only persion here who tells to much. ) But still the feeling between Nestcape 4.78 and Mozzilla 1.1 is different.

I can fake my IP as well, I'm currently using an Hungarian proxy and I see a "Kittens are in danger" ad...
(Hum... or maybe I haven't understand at all and you were not saying that the language specification would be bad because you can fake it )
