Proposal: Non-Government Organisations

The Civ3 game has an idea that I like, but I think it could be modified.

It has several non-government think-tanks, such as the Adam Smith Foundation for economic policy, and the Machiavelli Institute for foreign policy, which anyone can join and then participate in. These contribute greatly to that game.

I'd like to see non-government organisations here. Perhaps, the standard think-tanks, such as foreign affairs, economics, etc, but also more roleplay-oriented organisations, such as a church, which would also play a role in lobbying (though fulfilling a different purpose to political parties).

To prevent a mass of these organisations, I suggest an organisation would have to have five signatures before being created.

Edit: In that place people can post about their cool new avatars etcetera.

I would suggest renaming it to something SMAC-like for example the Command Center/Nexus.

Well, if we keep the Rec Commons to role-playing, it wouldn't be off topic... I know the CtP MP forum has a Cafe... and we don't even role-play in there! Different forums become different... almost families... so it's not needed to always send it to OT every time just because it doesn't apply to everybody.

I like the idea of a Rec Commons!

And put it in this forum so only those SMAC Demo players will participate and role-play.

Also, I like the idea of a Adam Smith group... but that's just me...

Edit: Might as well edit this if anyone necessarily wants to support it. I'll figure out any membership etc. stuff (there prolly won't be any) in some time. Of course, any suggestions are welcome.

Most likely... politics, social engineering, research... just a place for the entire population to hang out and get to know each other better outside of the working environment. Even family units and complaining about the fungas looking too red during whatever season... lack of energy supplies... or too much and not enough be applied to production... etc. etc. etc. Just a place for all the citizens to gather and gripe, chat, and as I said before, get to know each other.

That is why I'll push for Rec Commons among these forums presented by our Alpha.

Once we've got a couple, I'll set up a directory of NGOs.

A couple of things.
Firstly, what purpose is the Rec Commons going to serve? Just..from what I've read, I couldn't exactly gather.

Just so I can put a summary of it in the directory.

Secondly, I throw my support behind, to act as a founding member, of The Merchant Exchange, The Network Node, and a not-yet-named foreign relations committee. Perhaps the foreign relations one could be called The Empath Guild?
