Diplomacy options I want
Diplomacy seems to be progressing as the Civ titles progress, but I still want more!

1) I would like some options for asking allies and friendly countries about their status in the space race without having to spy on them.

2) You should be able to ask counties to cease and desist attacking someone else as part of a peace or trade deal. "Egypt, I will give you oil for 20 turns, if you leave Rome alone."

3) You should be able to threaten with nukes. "Egypt, back away from my friend Rome or I will nuke you." or "China, accept the terms of this peace deal with me or I will nuke you." This could be more compelling than threatening war and would avoid nuclear exchanges.

4) Arranging trades between other countries by buying additional resources or luxuries I don't need, but could sell to another country for cash, technology, etc.

I'm sure I'll think of more to add to this thread as the discussion progresses.

What would you like to see change about diplomacy?

Many to want, and there can never be enough. However, the most widely wanted (and removed from SMAC!) is the "leave my friend alone" option, which I'd really like to have. Otherwise, stopping someone from fighting my friends is a tough thing.

I want the Civ 2 style permanent strategic allience back. You cant get evrything that everyone wants, but ones like that which make a big change to gameplay should be included

I agree, however I found it incredibly easy to use this. 9 times out of 10 the AI would stop the war whne I asked.

Then again, I never really moved up the difficulty scale much....

There should be United Nations that acts like the Planetary Council in SMAC. The UN would allow you to sign nuclear treaties and do other things such as put restrictions on other countries. They could even have weapons inspectors to make sure everyone is follwong the treaty.
