Dumb question
I apologize in advance for such a newbie question but i have to make sure:
does the civ3edit tool allow us to make change to the way the game works, via the civ3mod.bic file?
like adding governments, wonders, units etc..

Seems to good to be true so i just HAVE to ask.

Yeah, it's a dumb question

(j/k. it wasn't dumb)

That is true. You have it right. You can mod most of the game. However, there are a few things which are hard-coded, and so are un-alterable.

And BTW, I suggest not overwriting the civ3mod.bic, but using different names for your mods. And make sure you put them into the Scenarios folder.

Thanks for the answer but i am wondering something else now:
If i modify civ3mod.bic file with my personnal tweaks, will it load each time with the game or do i have to activate the mod via the editor.

My goal is to play a modified game (balanced rather) but i have the french version and thus need to modify everything myself, as french and american version are not compatible, so i cannot just download the mods on apolyton as, they won't work with my game version.

I don't fully understand how the files connect to each other; may i assume civ3mod.bic is containing the core rules of the game?

thx !

Use the 'Load Scenario' button on the opening screen to open the file you saved in the scenario directory. The 'New Game' button opens the (supposedly unaltered) civ3mod.bic.

If you save your alterations as civ3mod.bic, at least make a backup beforehand.

Nothing other than experience. That is why you don't destroy your original civ3mod.

Did you also modify immortals so that iron wasn't a required resource?

On making mods - you really should make certain you have a copy of the default civ3mod.bic. I used to mod fairly extensively, and I never saw the need to modify the basic bic. Launching the Editor brings up the default rules (like civ3mod.bic) -- make the rules changes you're after and then just save it as a scenario (pick a name!). When you want to play under your modded rules, click "Load Sceanrio" at the start-up screen - this will load your modded rules, but you'll still be able to play random maps, a variety of civs, etc. - you don't lose any flexibility in setting your start preferences compared to clicking "New Game."

Aye i did modify immortals this way.

Anyway i got my original bic file back and managed to mod better (not touching immortals this time).

Actually, i did the little tweaks i wanted, added theocracy and replaced americans (wtf are they doing here?) with Spanish.
It works very well, so i 'm quit happy
