*pours the Czech beer down the drain*
Whoops.
*grabs a bottle of apple juice and downs it in one swift motion*
Fresh fruit juice gives me shivers, you know. Dunno why, it just does.

How much does a beer cost in a café in Russia? In Belgium that would be about 1.25 millicred (1.25 € right?).

At your service. The Caledonian beer, with special Ben Nevis ice cubes, the fungal gin, with special planetpearls, and finally the P4PSI, which really goes well in combination with the gin. That would be 5.2 millicreds please.

Well, shoujo are generally anime that's made for girls. Few of them would be found offensive by your wife. Generally, I'd try and avoid anything focusing around teenagers or schoolgirls as well.....unfortunatly, that doesn't leave much that's been released in the west, but there should be something out there. If not, then your best bet is fansubs or digisubs.

Many thanks... if I can now trick her into watching one of them though, that would be the miracle. She's as stubborn of a red-head as one can find... though that's not always a bad thing at least the red-head part...
Anyway... FMP was fansubbed... I guess I can start there... though I hate it that to get a fansub into my area one of my friends paid about $15 for the full series on CD.
Any other ways one can get their hands on fansubs?
/me cracks open a Pepsi and begins pondering ways to get anime...

Do you have a high-speed access? That's my bottleneck... also, what search engine do you use to find them easily?

People with high speed connections (i.e. not me) use p2p networks, usually Direct Connect.
Edit: OMFG, my avatar looks much better on the forum then in a pic editor.

Even if you don't have High Speed Access like I do, you should still manage alright if you're on a 56k, so long as whatever you're downloading with supports resume. I'd recommend either some sort of P2P network (Kass, I'll have to correct you there. Direct Connect isn't that popular). The following link should help you there.
http://www.slyck.com/
As for search engines....don't bother with any besides this.
http://aesearch.cjb.net
That link won't be much help anyway I'm afraid. There's very little to download via HTTP. My recommendation is to search around Anime forums ( http://www.animenation.net/forums , http://www.animeboards.com ) until you find a series that sounds good and there's digisubs available for it, then pop it into your P2P program and find a copy.

I see. Well, at least this proves that I am not one of those blessed with a speedy connection. And even if I had one, my computer couldn't churn out the needed power to actually run the videos, so there'd be no point in getting any anime on my desktop.

Couldn't churn out the power? I've got some of these eps to run on an old Pentium 70 with 16MB RAM and running Windows 95. Trust me, these babies will run on anything.
....though if your computer is that bad I might recommend only trying to get .RM videos. .DIVX will screw you up unless you've got a system from the last 3 or so years.

Heh, well mine is four years old... how big are .rm's then when compared to .avis or .divxs? And what program do they use, the Windows default player?

.rm's use the RealOne player. That's the only one that'll play it.
http://www.real.com
Good luck finding .rm's though. They're very much looked down upon by most people. You won't find much encoded in the format.
.rm's would usually be about 50MB, compared to 150~250MB for a .avi/.divx
What's the specs exactly of that comp, it might still be able to run .divx.

I assume that DivX requires a processor of at least 450 megahertz? Well mine is a P2 with 350 MHz. RAM, 64 megabytes of that, and video memory, 4 megs.

So and episode of Eva would be somewhere around 10 to 20 megabytes? Sounds, frankly, horrible...

It'll run it. Just make sure you play it through Windows Media player, and with everything else on your computer shut down.
No, an episode of Evangelion would be around 50MB. If you could find one that is. It's been released, so all ethical fansubbers have long since deleted all their copies, or at least stopped sharing them.

But note the word... ethical...
Actually, from my experiance that's one group of fans that really does seem to, for the most part, be ethical.
Unlike we gamers... so, how many ROMs did you guys bring with you from Earth?
/me cracks open another Pepsi.

Thanks for the info... I'll see what I can do with this heap of junk.
On the other hand, not having anime on my computer might be a good thing, what comes to my studies or normal life. Anime is the only excuse I have for maintaining a social life in the real world.
Damn, I can't use smilies because of that avatar. I'd feel that I was tarnishing it.

I recommend you join a local club then, if you aren't already a member. And get a better computer, you'll need it eventually. For your sake, I hope you've got a burner as well.

I live in a small town of seven thousand people. The number of people who have seen anime can be counted with the fingers in my hands... no clubs here. I wonder if there are any in the entire country at all.

So... for social issues we need to increase anime watching within the entire faction... perhaps we can set up a special node here in the Rec Commons for viewing classic works of Earth...
