As the current Director of Social Engineering, I hereby wholeheartedly second FlameFlash's proposal and suggest that we get into it right away. We need datatechnicians to set up the threatre and archivists to search the datalinks. At least Evangelion must be there, it's a noteworthy part of human culture and an important psychological and philosophical piece. The cruel angel's thesis, if you will. In the cultural survey made to us just before boarding Unity in Earth orbit, I gave Eva the highest score possible, and in my case it was quite high since my listed fields of specialty were, and still are, humanistic sciences as major specialty with physics as the minor one.

I guarentee you there'll be Anime clubs in your country. Find a university, and you'll find a club.
If you're desperate, get up in the morning and watch Pokémon with the kiddies. It's an Anime too.

Pokemon and Digimon? Sure, they're on every Saturday, but in the morning I'm usually sleeping off the decifit that's being created as I type this... and I'm not that desperate, seriously. Evangelion has been the first anime I've ever seen, and as I've said before, Evangelion certainly isn't the most typical anime, or TV series, or work of fiction around. I do not consider myself as an avid fan of the genre yet; I'm primarily a fan of NGE, Eva no otaku, not a fan of anime.
What's bishi?

Ah. Fair enough. Though don't knock Pokémon before you watch it. Yes, the dubs are all absolutly crap, but if you can get your hands on the originals fansubbed (Or perhaps even better, the Manga series by Toshiro Ono. Original version and not the VIZ translations of course.), then you'll be suprised at just what you've stumbled upon.

I was a fan of Digimon myself... played the game Pokemon, though after the first three (own Yellow) I just lost interest... partly due to the fact that I went to Uni and my gaming group kind of split up slowly after that.
Used to play a lot of Magic: the Gathering too...
/me sighs, remebering the good ol' days of watching anime and gaming...

Magic the Gathering... I always listed that as one of those fads, like Pokemon or Warhammer. Well, at least they've been fads in my circle of acquaintances. Both with Warhammer and MtG I had social pressure to start playing myself, but as a year or two have passed the expensive cards and figures have been left to collect dust, reassuring me that not getting involved was for the best.

Ok. Let's get this straight once and for all.
Now I've seen Episodes 1 to 26. The original ones that were shown in Japanese television from October 1995 to March 1996, that is.
Now, some parts, especially 21 to 24, were enhanced with new scenes, and the ending was remade. This created the films Death and Rebirth and End of Evangelion.
Now I've learned that there's a third film, one big production called Revival of Evangelion, in which there are the fixed episodes, and remade two last episodes, called Air and... something.
This is awfully confusing. It seems that as there are as many perceptions of Eva as there are viewers, there are several different versions out there as well. This certainly proves that there is no ultimate truth or reality...
Is the R of E's ending similar to the ending in E of E then?

Baka! The 'Rebirth' part of Death and Rebirth is the beginning of the new ending in End of Evangelion. And there are two endings; the E of E and the original ending. So this means that if I watch the two films, I'll have seen all there is to see... correct?

Were the two movies included in the DVD release?

There are as far as I know two DVD releases; D and R was released last month, I recall hearing from Apocalypse, and E of E will be released soon enough. I and my friend and his friends are planning on getting somewhat intoxicated and watching the films in a row.

Considering that I found the battles of Eva somewhat dull, excluding the moments that build up the characters, I doubt any action orientated anime would do any better. The story and all the references to other texts and sources was what struck me most in NGE. So I'm a bit prejudiced against series like Gundam [random] or Robotech (isn't that the same as Macross?). I'll admit right away, though, that I don't know much about those series, so feel free to correct me.

Ahem. I disdain the stuff I loved when I was a kid... well, excluding Alfred J. Kvak. Now there was a cartoon. I grew up with Alfred Jodocus.

I loved the storyline about the dodos. And the one with the crow type acting out like a dictator and Alfred helping a revolution. The Nazi allegory was so obvious...

Wasn't there a flying orange windmill there? And Alfred visited space with it once... I think he even went back in time to some place that was like ancient Egypt.

My memory is fuzzy so I might be mixing up cartoons...
Okay. Two more hours and I've downloaded the DivX codec and software, and two episodes of NGE. If they work, I'll have my friend burn them on a CD so I won't have to download them all... 1,3 gigs on six KB/s is a big deal, considering that my connection can die out without warning every now and then (which makes downloading whilst asleep nearly impossible). You can look at the local time field and make your own conclusions...

Yes, TKG, it is anime.
All in favor of impeaching TKG if he backs out? (j/k)
Well, what about :
All in favor of beelining to Planetary Networks so that we can download Yang's secret anime stash and watch it in comfy holo theatres?
Hmm... actually, I'm not sure we even want to know what anime Yang watches.

TKG: You have something against anime as a whole genre or just Pokemon? I'm not too happy with Pokemon myself, that overcommercial turd and those hidious tentacle films are giving anime a bad reputation it definitely doesn't deserve.
Sigh...
I get it to run it but I can't hear any sound. Notice the time of posting - and I'm writing a school essay now. Maybe download new audio codecs to replace the current ones, which are four years old...

Manga is in form of books, anime comes in tv or films.

There is no third film. Blame a hoax movie poster some fan put together last year for that rumour.
As for your codec problems, download all the updates for Windows Media Player you can get from windowsmedia.com, plus get the following codec pack.
http://nimo.everwicked.com/
DBTS, you've got it completly wrong with Robotech & Macross.
1st Season of Robotech = A cut and hacked version of Superdimensional Fortress Macross
2nd Season of Robotech = A cut and hacked version of Army of the Southern Cross, with a completly rewritten script to bring it into the "Robotech Universe".
3rd Season of Robotech = Same as season 2, only it was Genesis Climber Mospedia that they cut and hacked.
And TKG? Don't call it Japanimation. It's Aj

Danke.
(Am I ever glad I took German and French in comprehensive school. Anime: reason de etre.)
But you were certainly correct; the picture runs almost as smoothly as it did with my friends far superior computer. Full screen mode is a bit slow but the codec garbles up quite heavily in that.

Macross was made in Japan. Robotech was created in America using the animation from several Japanese shows, including Macross, and completly re-writing the timeline.
Don't diss Pokémon. It's good. Just not when it's cut to ribbons in being dubbed. You should see the originals.
As for the Dragonball saga, it's far worse than Pokémon will ever be, especially its dubs. I thought they ripped Pokémon apart, but Funimation really screwed up with this title when they originally did it.

My knowledge of DB is limited to the speck of info that MrWhereItsAt's avatar is, if I recall correctly, from DBZ. I could be wrong.

No wonder I've got the impression that Robotech is one of the pariah of anime.
