tileimprov/terrain fiddling hell!
not a very indepth mod i now but I`m playing around with the terrain, more specificallt the two special tiles at the bottom of the terrain.txt file.
Everything was fine for a while, i had modified mountain & hill terrains that were working splendidly yet now they are screwing me around.
1. Even in the Senario Editor screen my modified mountain (special1) is visible when I add it to a map it comes up as my modified hill (special2) but with the mountain's attributes
2. Also my modified tiles are occasionally surrounded by this disturbing rainbow effect around the borders.
Can anyone help me or point me in the direction of a readme file on the subject as this will stop me from getting violent......

The last two speciaç terrains are there for the samurai scenario. They have crazy rules that depending of what tiles surround them they can or cannot show up a bridge or a house. I wouldnt bother so much with them.
But if you want to go really deep on modifying terrain you should get the Tiledit. There you will find the tileindex to all terrains. And modifying terrains will be much clear for you.

Hmmm, I give those downloadable files a go. This was all a lot simpler with Civ2 or maybe I`m too lazy!
Oh yes that is the UN flag, I like to keep my whereabout ambigious for legal reasons

It is better to create new terrain than modify the last two. just copy and paste a existent terrain at the end and start modifying it. It isnt hard at all. Try this.
Acually the dowload i recommend isnt that important. I dont think you should even bother to get it despite of what i said before.
Any problem figuring out what each entry means just ask.

sorta like cut, say the greenhill text, paste it before the two special terrains and take it from there. Is it really that simple!

Yup, if you don't need new graphics, that's the best way to add new terrain, units, wonders, tileimps, civs, etc. Just copy & paste... (even if you do want new graphics it's not much harder - you only need to have/make the graphics as well)

To access the terrain graphics you need TileEdit, it's in the CtP2 Files section of the Directory, under Modification > Tools.

y`know, what would be a dream would be if somebody could come up with a program that could easily alter and add units, terrain, improv, wonders etc with just a few clicks of a friendly mouse. Mind you thats the sorta thing that an actual programmer would get up to!

Normally we do in the very bottom but there is no diference if you paste before, or after, or in the middle, or at the first line, or at the last of the file. Just Pick a place.

Are you making new terrain graphics, or just new terrain types with the same graphics?

well for the moment I`m just using the same terrain graphics but once my experience has grown I`ll get into the dirtier stuff! What I hope to do is have rare resource terrain scattered around the map like the resources in the old civ games, something to fight over!

Thats a cool idea. Like very fertile land=amazing food production from that or those bits of terrain.
I like this idea combined with normal resources (tradeable ones) and hopefully the civ3 style ones that will very hopefully be able to be implemented.
Good luck gigapimp3001
What sorts of "valuble terrain" ideas have you got. I could only think of fertile terrain

Oh yea in Alpha centuri they had similar idea. With such terrain as "Uranium flats" and "Kelp sea" and "Mount Planet" etc.

well special terrain that boosts cash resources and food and maybe just different types of the same terrain, just for asthetic reasons (a whole planet of grassland does look pretty dull!)
