Will you create a link in the main Network Node thread to this branch? That will keep the Official Polls thread tidy.

Is there any other first beeline? We're not the Uni. Granted, the AI isn't so great at reaching SotHB first, but Ind. Auto is far more important. We should be going straight for that, picking up and changing to FM on the way, and Wealth when we get it.

agreed. unless we are in a war.
if in a war, the beeline is synthetic fossil fuels. can be reached quickly, and picks up gene splicing on the way, lifting the +2 nutrient/tile cap.

DBTS, my point is that we're not all that likely to get to SOHB first anyway, so why bother when it'll just slow down us getting the far more important Ind. Auto?

several people ran tests, and found that unless we take social psych as our first tech, we can't get to secrets first.

Making it a poor choice of first beeline unless we land in the Jungle or a similary nut rich location. And even then it's not that great an option.

Well, my tests did not indicate that necessarily, but I will run another one.
My personal opinion, which is subject to change and/or persuasion:
Centauri Ecology
Social Psych
Secrets of the Human Brain
Ethical Calculus
Should none of the above be available, my first alternate is Doctrine: Mobility; second alternate is Information Networks.
Reasoning: I think we can get Secrets if we make it a priority, even if we get CentEco first as a majority prefers to do. After that, Democracy, with its early Efficiency and Growth bonuses, is easily available. Mobility is first alternate for pod-popping potential; Info Networks is second for Network Nodes and artifacts.
Although I'm not completely clear on the reason for beelining to Industrial Automation, I think it is because of crawlers, which you see as important for SPs. In the game I'm currently running, I was able to get 3 out of 7 of the early SPs (HGP, Empath Guild, CDF) wihout beelining to crawlers. That's more than any other faction.
I'll run another simulation before I rush to a conclusion, but Industrial Auto doesn't seem so vital to me.

I'll be blunt then.
You sir, are a moron. Read Vel's guide, read the builders guide on Civgaming's Acadamy, and learn how to play a decent game.

crawlers are VITAL. not just for rushing SPs.
Ind auto is also good for us because we get: wealth, planned, free market, PTS, VW, synthemetal, probe teams, network nodes, energy banks, hab complexes, hologram theatres, librarian specialists.

My discussion with Archaic has been taken into private messages, at the suggestion of TKG. (Edited from previous longer post.)

*Shrugs* Yes, I'm blunt and tactless. At least I speak my mind. (BTW, how is calling you a moron a veiled insult? I don't veil my insults. If I think you're a moron, I say you're a moron. And I'm saying your comment earlier was rather moronic. Live with it.) If you want to see the guide, I have one of the old free versions which I can email to you.
If you want to role play the game, fine, but say so before making comments like you were before, which seemed to be based completly off game mechanics, without any RP. If you do that, then I have every right to criticise you for making what is a rather uninformed statement. The simple fact of the matter is that I shouldn't be having to post these things. It should be able to be assumed that any one who's played MP at least once or twice is familiar with them.

he vel`s guide isnt sacred here you know. EVEN in Sun Tzu`s The art of war there somethings where other great military minds (including me ) do not agree with and i am sure Vel`s guide isnt nearly as good as The art of war

after automation. restriction lifting IMO should be the next goal, but that's a LONG time from now.
gene splicing is on the way to synthetic fossil fuels, an important goal for war (in case we need to boot someone off our continent )

Don't forget to stop long enough at Industrial Economics to go bother Kass about Free Market
Gene Splicing is very good for the nutrient restriction raising, but to me it is not as critical early on as the Automation line. I assume we all want to be expanding like crazy, which makes getting 2 nutrient tiles the only thing we need to worry about there. Besides, if we have a nice Rainy tile nearby, it seems we'd rather put off the Former for a bit later, so there's no reason to want to Farm it for 3 nuts (hey, IIRC, a condensor is allowed to break the nut restriction, so that's no consideration if we get the WP!).
I haven't played with crawlers for awhile (gets boring, and I had to stop my Tech Stagnation/Double Blind game because too many crawlers were slowing down my computer . OCC is the only time I use them anymore, but that doens't apply to what I'm about to say), but it seems to me that building a few of them at each base is the first real reason to stop massive colony pod production (exception being, of course, a base we want to build a secret project on, which should probably have stopped pod building earlier for Tanks, Comons, and the project itself). Then we can get towards Gene Splicing, and maybe have a nice little pop boom, though without crawlers I usually wait for Tree Farms.
