Sorry, this took so long, RL interference... blah blah
Here's an example of what the coordinate map presently will look like. Comments and suggestions please.

The axis is currently on Apolytonia, with the y or second digit along the red bar counting out toward Greece. The x or first digit is along the blue bar and counting towards England. Termina and Rhiems are just on the -1 side of the y axis, with Chartres dead on it. Ubergorsk and Tyre are just on the +1 side of the x axis with Antioch on it.
Do you want to move the axis to -001,000 to align with the coast?
Do you want every tile number or just every other, every fifth, etc?

Excellent, caesar! And how much work...
A little suggestion: make the numbers 1 point smaller, and put those numbers between parentheses, like that: (-004, 002), to make it more clear. What do you think about?

Wow. Lots of numbers. I would recomend every other tile, but with the same shading like you have done for the axies.
I have no graphics software here at home, so by every other I ment something like this
xoxoxoxo
oxoxoxox
xoxoxoxo
oxoxoxox
not
ooxooox
xoooxoo
ooxooox
xoooxoo
if that makes sence. BTW, thanks for all the hard work.

Hmmm... All numbers should be in the overlay. And maybe you could reinforce the grid too. I've suggested numbers a little smaller, with parentheses, because this. Remember, this is an auxiliary overlay, to localize easily any tile on the map. You need a clean map to see resources, roads, etc.
(This is only a sketch)

Absolutely excellent. Great job.
I personnaly would accept figures much smaller.
This considerable achievement will become a reference as important in its field as the Code of laws.

Thanks, Davout. Caesar has working hard on this, and I agree, this will be very significant for the game, in many levels.

Good job! But wouldn't it be better to use numbers and letters instead [ (aaa,000) , ... ] to avoid confusion between x- and y-directions ..?

Maybe we could use different colors for this. This kind of "ordered pairs" (I don't know how say that in English), I mean (x, y), is a standard in math.

Hmm, do you really need the numbers on every single square though? I would think it should be sufficient just to keep numbers along the axis.

In a regular map, yes. What caesar is doing is an overlay, so you can have any kind of map with AND without it. For instance, the SMC could work with a tactical map without the overlay, to see where their troops are, and can think about the troops movements with the same tactical map, with the overlay. Two maps of any kind.
And, of course, a general one with only the axii. What you think about?

Oh, I got it! Nice!!!
Are you guys using Photoshop or Paintshop to do that? Just save it as a layer too so you can attach it to any sort of map I would assume right?
Well nice work then! Keep it up!

The map is on the site, the same link . It's the Empire Map.
If something in the map is wrong or is not what you want, let me know and I'll make the corrections.

ugh! I'm not going to be able to work on the coordinate map again today. Sorry. But a few things... I like the idea of letters for y, it will make a smaller label, but I'm a little concerned about confusion with counting in letters or ideas of -a. I was planning on coloring at least one of the axis numbers, but with letters that may be redundant. As Aro said the plan is to make this coordinate overlay as flexible as we can. My plan now is to have labels on every tile, every even tile and every 10th tile. I'll work in axii (what is the real plural?) only too. Keep the suggestions coming, and again sorry for the delay...

Agreed absolutely. In this way, you will have three or four overlays to use when necessary, depending on case. I agree too with your idea, about coloring one of the numbers in the pair. It's enough to make it easy to understand. And don't worry so much about time, what you are doing is definitive and deserves all time you will spend.
Edit: double joke...
Edit 2: put the things in the context...

ok, here it is so far... pardon the out of date map but that's unimportant. I have nto yet added a tinge of color to the numbers, but other than that this is how it will look...

An asterisk (*) is used for nil on the lettered axis. Tiles on the axis can simply be referred to by one of the pair. So Chartes would be I and Antioch simply 22, while Apolyton can be known as "The Official Center of the Universe", or TOCU for short...
In plain text tile designations can be written as -2G or 6-B for simplicity.
Any last comments, suggestionsor questions?

Fantastic job, it’s really impressive! Can you imagine how useful this will be?
As soon you have it done, send me by e-mail, with the map (each layer as a file, etc).
Hmm... Actually, you will have to post a psd file, in your site, because we will need the transparency. Is possible make a gif with transparency in a thing of this size?
We’ll be able to produce a coordinated map for every need.
Man, an admirable work. Congratulations.

I'm having troubles with my monitor and probably I will be "out" today (I guess I have to buy another one...$$$!). Tomorrow morning I'll be back. I'm using a little monitor (15') as a backup, but is very difficult work with maps in this piece of crap.
