Urgent: Starting the game
Thankfully, TKG just reminded me, it's September 1, and with Crisler away, starting the game falls to me.
I'm going to dig through all the old threads, find the settings we agreed on, and create the game now, then post the game exactly as it is on opening.
That leaves the problem of what we do next.
This leaves a couple of options
a) I can hold it tonight, between 5AM GMT and 12PM GMT.
b) I can hold them between 8AM GMT and 12PM GMT Monday or Wednesday.
c) We could hold this as a turnthread.
d) Someone else steps in to take my place.
e) any other ideas?
one final thing...
can we please hold this turnchat in #smacdemo on DALnet?
i can't get into the poly chatroom...it doesn't like the apostrophe in my name, messaged ming about a few days ago and it's still there...

A)midnight-5AM...i plan to be sleeping
B)3AM-5AM...see above. if only i lived in europe
C)fine...
D)no thoughts
E)no
i guess i'm not needed though. the poll shows strong support for ecology as our first tech.
don't know what DALnet is...maybe use MSN messenger? is it more universal?

msn messenger chats can't take any more than five people
DALnet is on IRC...go to www.mirc.com
I'm leaning towards turnthreads as the best option of those...

I'd vote for option C. Much more convenient than getting everyone online at the same time.

I agree. ALthough it is slower, it helps the UNN (because we dont have to read over huge chat logs...), and the people because they dont have to log on while working or wake up early or even miss the game.
Turnthreads are best

I'd prefer a turnthread, as I've been having trouble getting onto IRC.
If we have to do a turnchat, here's my possible times:
Sunday, 5 PM GMT--11 PM GMT (Noon to 6 PM Eastern)
Monday, 3 PM GMT--11 PM GMT (10 AM to 6 PM Eastern)
Wednesday, 3 PM GMT--9 PM GMT (10 AM to 4 PM Eastern)
If I can't attend, here's my orders:
Rushbuying: Pointless, given our current financial status.
Crawlers: Not applicable-- we can't build them yet.
Worker placings: Special resource squares get priority, otherwise, maximize nutrient production.

Turnthreads!
Btw, I take it that the D of SE won't be needed for the first turns of the game, since... well, there's nothing to do.

Don't forget to post saves regularly, so I can whine about Pandemoniak's terraforming plans.

/me shakes fist
Don't make me run for Commisioner just to get to a turnchat. Judging by the Civ3 game a few may absolutely hate that.

well, I'm going to say I voted against the turnchat option... what ever happened to that poll? No turnchat won, if my memory serves...

I'd be satisfied with either option, chat or thread.
Time's really not an issue for me, except for 4:00-17:00 GMT when I can NOT attend.
But I do like the idea of inner-Government chats in urgent cases etc... or just for brainstorming.

on the poll, turnchat and turnthread tied, and the other poll says twice per week, and >5 turns per turnchat/thread.
EDIT: since this isn't exactly on topic, i'm not posting again, just editing an old message:

Maybe redo the one that tied? It was far from a tie when I posted there... (though I don't doubt you TKG.)

Let's look at that in future - but for now, I think we need to run with a turnthread.

I agree... though we will need some kind of lasting turnthread/turnchat policy.

I'm in favour of using mIRC, if not for turnchats, perhaps quick Cabinet-discussions etc...
(and btw, DALnet doesn't like me, either.)
