I feel like an ass-hole
I've been real busy in college, and it's only going to get worse.
I haven't been able to play civ at all up here, either for the demo game or for myself.
I thought i could get in enough time to do my job on a regular basis, but even on THE WEEKENDS i have tons of stuff to do.
It appears as if my presence in the demogame will be severely diminshed.
So i pose this question to the people:
Would you rather me stay on till the end of the term (9/16 i think), or resign now.
if i stayed on, Aggie (my deputy) would be doing a lot of the work.
If you really want to have mid-term elections and chaos, you could i suppose.
I really feel like an ass-hole here, I let the whole damn game down. I'm lost on the game, i have no idea where we are or what we're doing, just that there is a lot of wars and people talking about making peace quickly.
I simply dont have the time anymore.
So, what say the people of Apolytonia?

I'm so sorry to hear that UberKruX, but I'm glad we have a responsible SMC that sets up a poll like this at times like this.
As for the question at hand, Aggie has done a good job so far and we really don't need more chaos right now.

in all seriousness now...
AGGIE would make a great fill in temp, but we should have elections, there are 16 days or so, plenty of time for a 3 day election if anyone opposes Aggie
Only the Pres's job is subject to not have mid term elections, otherwise all ministeries are subject to new elections should the minister fall out of place.

Uber Krux, you have served us very well, thanks you, and come play with much as much as possible.
I think Aggie should serve the rest of Uber's term. He has been doing a great job, and we dont need chaos.

manually add +1 to YES
At least now we know who's going to be SMC next term.

I voted "yes", Aggie is doing an amazing job. But Uber becomes a legend, and people roleplayed a lot with his name.
The history will remember him as "the most sanguinary and merciless warmonger, who liked to play soccer with the leader heads".
We'll miss you, Commander.

Perhaps we should be asking Aggie if he wants to be Acting SMC. If so he should appoint a deputy of his own.

I say yes. And because Uber set up this poll ( ), it seems to me we don't necessarily need another election. Just adds clutter.

Only MWIA or Un can set up election polls, constitutionally.

constitutionally, this poll cant be used to determine Uber's succesor.
but apparently, no one likes to follow the rule-book no more.

The court requires a complaint by PM (to any or all of the justices) before it can do anything.

well, its hard to decide on
as the poll is formed... Uber is asking should he stay on, but be a lame-duck minister and let his deputy do everything
or should he resign and we have an election
technically... thats not a horrible question to ask.
but it gets around the current laws, allowing him to appoint his succesor.

Figure head might be a better term than lame duck...
However, Apocalypse... pointing out that this nation does have rules and that the rule of law is important does not seem bitter to me.

i need a retirement pass time
i try to keep my mouth shut on issues, but pointing out an Uber conflict was too tasty to ignore!
besides, my only interest is the democractic process, not causing a fuss.
if no one wants to run against Aggie... fine
but i dislike the idea of completely skipping an election because it would be a "fuss"... what next, just skip regular elections so we have less fuss and get more work in? Thats not a demo game.

We really should have an election for Uber's sucessor. Aggie would most likely win (if he wanted the job), but it is the legal way to do things.
Of course, if Uber didn't choose to resign, he coud just delegate to Aggie for the rest of the term. That would make it easier -- no election. The only remedy (if someone seriously objected) would be impeachment.

impeachment is such an ugly way to do things...
but perhaps neccesary
it pains me to think that the entire democractic process can be ignored for anything.

Impechment is more for when we are all really pissed off and have the motivation to go through with it.

so all actions and rules available in the constitution are only to be used when it is otherwise not convenient?
if Uber is not exactly around for the next 2 weeks of his reign, but hes choosing who is doin the job, that isnt exactly right either.
Punkbass did the same thing, just he didnt choose his succesor, and we never thought to impeach him apparently.

I agree that Aggie's doing a fine job, and would be happy to see him succeed Uber.
Having said that, I think he should take over and then there should be an election. Just out of principle. He can do most of the work until then, and then if he wins in the election he can carry on with the term.
I wouldn't be that strongly against him staying as a deputy and just doing more of the work, however -- not my first choice, but I could live with it. If nothing else, it'd mean that he wouldn't have to deal with the hastle of running for only such a small period of time.
Uber -- Apolytonia will miss you. You were one of our first and greatest leaders, and you lead us to many glorious victories. I hope that you can return one day and continue to lead us once school has settled down or is on break.

This is a great burden, however I will be glad to accept it, if the people decide I should. Also this poll gives me a legal basis for my authority, something that was clearly lacking earlier. Uber has done a great job and his contributions can not be overstated. These are very large shoes to fill, but i will try my best to serve apolyton and lead its armies. However we will always miss uber and look forward to his return.
Thank You
Aggie

actually... as the poll is stated:
you will gain no legal standing as a minister, you would remain a deputy if it passes.
if it doesnt pass, you may become a candidate for SMC in a mid-term type election, and you would probably serve as SMC untill the election was over
but with the current landslide, looks like your gonna be a deputy with no official or legal standing as SMC untill the 17th

I understand that ninot, but the people did say they didn't mind me running things while uber was gone. Up to now it could be said I had absolutely no authority because in no concievable way had I been put before the people and since all authority comes from the people I had no authority. To be honest I felt alittle weird giving orders and making some strategy when I had not been put before the people. If I do get elected SMC, I've decided to put my deputy before the people so he won't be in the same position I was. Now in some form I have been voted on. Yes, technically this isn't totally legal and if desired somebody could impeach uber and force an election. But the people have made their will clear and I will do the best job possible. Additionaly I thank everybody for the kind words in this thread.
Aggie

So shall I start a kind of conferment of Deputy powers in Aggie? I see this as conferring upon him a kind of extended Deputisation in the wake of the extended absence of Uber.
I hope to request the people agree to allow Aggie the power of Acting-SMC. The options I hope to include are:
1. Confer the title of Acting-SMC on Aggie (he basically takes Uber's place)
2. Confer powers of the SMC to Aggie, but he must stand down in the event of Uber's return
3. Nominate someone else to take the Acting-SMC role (basically a write-in vote)
Whaddaya think?
