Yes, it was disappointing. Needless to say, we continued and it turned into a rout. The only problem was my senate never once would let me attack your civ after you left. But since there was still land to settle....

RAH

But it was good to have you back in a game.

War dropped because he feared the loser's screen again!

Actually, I was hemmed quite beautifully... But I had beer and trade routes, so I was happy!

I'll be looking tommorrow afternoon my time (GMT-5), if anyone's on I'll give them a duel.

It definately would have been closer if you had stayed.
I had the better land, and had some good luck. But once you left, I was the Wonder Hog

FF didn't have much land. (should learn to head to sea quicker once he recongnizes that fact, I ended up with a lot of good cities just a few squares away from his empire that he should have had.)

But Please don't give up on MP games yet. We need all the good players we can get.

Plenty of land?!?

The Canadian version of plenty and our's must mean two different things then.

I see your point Rah, but I made a fast run at Trade instead of MM, thinking I could pick up steam faster that way then with a few more token cities. I guessed wrong, and the lesson was noted.

Hmmm... I guess all these times that I've lost are due to the other players getting techs at the beginning...

Good to know for this weekend...

Glad you've clarified the rules for the others who have cheated me out of victory for so long!

Always a tough choice. My thinking on this has changed over the last 6 months. I used to rush trade regardless of my board position. Now, if I even think I'm pinned in, MM will be my first tech after monarchy. The people here expand very quickly. A few weeks ago, I noticed an island just off my coast, and I started thinking trade bonuses and rushed MM. Rushed a ship and settler to send out only to find Berz had already settled it.

But you're right, sometimes it's the right decision, and sometimes it's not. That's why the game is still fun after all these years.

RAH
And Yes, the reason you always get beaten is because of all the host techs that I get.

Now explain, in no more than 4000 words, why it is your mastery of the game and not the free techs that defeats FF.

Sorry FF, but I couldn't pass that line up.

And apologies to Eyes, for using one of his lines.

I can dish it out and take it...

As for the "island", I saw it too, but knew it was connected, so didn't dream of trade bonuses.

You are right though about one thing: The subtle changes that the game throws at you make things fun everytime you play.

And those tech hosts have alot to do with me sucking.

Yes, most of us here can "take it" as well as we give it, which is one of the more fun aspects of this site.

That Island I was mentioning must have been from the game the week before. The only reason I know is, I think DD was in that game so there was plenty of time to "black click" in between turns, and I saw the different continent number.
The game you're mentioning, yes I knew it was connected, I just did MM early so I could get settlers down there faster. (read, before you)

So , you should be happy as the bonus for trading with another player is a lot better then trading with yourself

Berz had lighthouse, and wasn't letting my ships deliver unmolested. Too expensive in terms of lost ships and caravans to deliver to that island.

And the sneaky ******* encroached a city on my mainland near the island so he had a good view of approaching ships. It didn't take me long to figure out the cost benefit analysis on that one.

Hard to say... you are always welcome to come over. And I have enough beer thanks to yours and Guth's generosity last week...

Barry said he might make it...
