Super Mario Sunshine
Anyone else got this game? What do you think of it so far?

So far I'm a bit disappointed in it (the FMV was kinda pathetic), and the gameplay so far has consisted of squirting sludge-flower things until they explode. I'm only about an hour into it though.

Edit: And this should have been in the other games forum. If a mod would be kind enough...

I just got it yesterday, but I love it! I agree that the FMV was rather disappointing, but the gameplay is spot-on and highly addictive. The camera is pretty wacky at times, especially when you first start out, but that is my only real beef with it. I would say it's my favorite game of the year, thus far.

I just beat it yesterday and I thought it was excellent, for the most part. Yes, the FMV's are lame and the beginning is a little slow, but once you get into the main part of the game it is pure platforming goodness. It's a little on the short side, but it is addictive as hell. I'm still playing it and getting more shines, even though I've already beat the game.

Anyway, it isn't a ground breaking game like Mario 64 and if you bought it looking for that then you'll probably be a little disappointed (like Gamespot). If you're looking for a great plaformer and can deal with a few rough spots, however, then you should enjoy the game. It's Mario for god's sake!

I got mine this morning. The postman finally delivered it.

I think it should be more verbose on what you have to do...

Very true, that tends to be a common problem with games in general I think.

I have noticed that they are including a lot more enemies from the old mario games (such as the blooper of my avatar) and they even remixed old mario songs in certain places. Very cool!

I love the retro Mario music in some of the levels (and the retro platforming levels in the "bonus" stages). I don't really care too much for the new tropical music, but I don't mind it either. It just doesn't stay in my head like the oldschool Mario tunes.

If you're a true Nintendo fan there's no reason you should be without it.

Unfortunately I don't think it'll appeal to today's mass market, but it will to anyone who grew up on Mario.

I would highly reccemend it, but don't take my word for it, almost all videogame sites gave it extremely high scores as well. EGM gave it three 9.5s, gamespy gave it 9.4, IGN gave it 9.4. The only major reviewer that has been slightly critical was Gamespot, who gave it only an 8.0. That said, I think it's probably the best mario game since Mario World and I was someone who didn't really like Mario 64 all that much.

I'm still undecided on this. While it would've been cool to play ice or desert levels, I also think that the consistent tropical theme adds to the game. It really seems like your exploring fictional Island Delfino, as opposed to just traipsing around through a hodgepodge of randomly themed levels.

Hopefully they'll make a sequel in the near future (they could probably use the same engine) set in the Mushroom Kingdom with all the types of levels we know and love from the old Mario games.

edit: You should definitely buy the game. Like I said before, it's Mario!

I still want the Wario format (of Wario Land 2 and 3, not 1 and 4) to be brought across to 3D, that'd be brill.

Is there any music like the Mario64 masterpiece "Dire, dire docks"?

Or is it all freaky caribbean banjo?

It's so incredibly stupid that whole Europe have to wait more than a month longer just because those lazy Germans and Spaniards can't bother to learn English properly and must have it translated.

Anyway, when Freeloader is released...

They virtually ignored the European market before the N64 and didn't get much better afterwards.

I have a 64, snes and Gameboy colour i never use. I only really play games on pc nowadays.

I just got it. I'm only up to 15 or so of those shines. It is a favorite game for Gamecube so far but the games I have bought have been a little less then I expected. I recommend it but I was also raised on Mario. Nintendo seems to have a decent line up of games for this fall and winter though.

I just got the game the other day, and i'm enjoying it quite a bit. I'm only just starting out (i think i have like, 3 or 4 shines so far) but it's great fun! Classic Mario Bros. game play. The whole environmentalist premise seems kind of "off" for a video game, but once you really get into it, and the "mario-ness" takes over, you don't notice anymore. At least, that's my experience. . .

i don't think it's as good as most other marios. it's basically mario64 w/ a water cannon and better gfx. technically it is better than mario64 but in relavatory terms mario64 was much, much better game during it's time. it also wasn't very hard nor did it take that long to beat(20hrs i'd guess). after i beat bowser i didn't even feel like collecting the rest of the shines, i got bored w/ sms. all the other mario games i replayed quite a bit and got the all the items/etc.

nintendo's gamecube is really disappointing me so far. all the games basically seem to be remakes of old nintendo games w/ the same gameplay w/ new gfx(sms, super smash bro's, and star wars for example).

Well, in all previews and reviews I've came across, the T-1000 Mario was said to be the bad guy.

Sure, I've seen news items with "wanna know who REALLY set Mario up?" but chosen not to look and spoil the game experience.

So it's exactly like in Luigi's Mansion then?
Not in my wildest fantasy could I've imagined this bizarre plot twist.

Gah, it's released here on Friday, beaten with four days.
