Why do people start games knowing they can only play less than a hour?
It seems like it's been happening more lately. You get a game set up, get it rolling, and about half an hour in, somebody says they have something they have to do...

Sometimes it's said as if they "forgot" about a prior appointment...

Sometimes, it just something like, I have a party to go to, and then they drop off line...

Sometimes, it's something like, my plans have changed... bye...

Sometimes, it's just a, I got to go, and they drop off line within seconds...

Yeah... stuff does come up and plans do change, but it seems to be happening more and more lately.

Why would you start a game if you know you have something else to do in less than hour. Isn't that kind of rude to the people you are playing with.

I dunno - ask Hydey.

Personally I prefer to fall asleep at my desk.

Most of the time I would suspect that the person in question has a bad start and doesn't want to play on. It is best to avoid such people

I have had people cancel games at the last minute, I've even done that myself at times. But 'remembering' an appointment after a game starts is just annoying. Starting a game when you know you have an appointment is even worse, since one way or the other you ruin the game for the other players involved.

The worse thing is when they use the same excuse they used a few week prior. Is it too much to ask for a little originality
THIS IS NOT THE ZONE.

Your game seems pretty tolerant..........personally if someone left unexpectedly on more than one occasion I wouldn't play them. Gaming time is finite.......it must be used wisely.

The reason we're tolerant is because it never seemed to be a problem. But recently...............We may have to change our thinking.

Yes it's tough to be old, decrepit, and inflexible.

Indeed... (You said it, not me)

But my dogged playing has had me wanting to quit MANY times...

:goodjob: @ Sloww, the morons who quit real early are the ones who ONLY care about winning, and not if the game is close or not.

I think I only left a game early once, when my wife got stranded and I had to go get her (flat tire on interstate, she couldn't get the tire off).

Usually if I commit to play, I say how long I think I can be online (4 hours, whenever, 2 hours, ect).

I have seen the stuff you mention several times Ming, but as they say, sh1t happens.

I have no problem when "SH1T Happens". I had to leave a game early once when we thought my daughter broke her leg and we had to take her to a hospital. And believe it or not, you can usually tell when it's beyond a person's control and when they're making excuses. Frequency is usually the biggest give away.

Kudos to Deity Dude.
Last night he lost his second settler to barbs opening a hut. (hard to have sympathy when you do that but I have also on occasion when I think i'm falling that far behind and need to take a few risks)
But anyway, he was crippled from the start and it went downhill from there. BUT, he stuck it out and played quite a few hours afterwards.

A true trooper. I tip my hat.
