Everyone has missed the obvious: it's a CIA robotic surveillance device, capable of relaying video feeds and recording whispers up to 100 meters away.

Makes sense, considering Apolyton.

If it's a spider, then don't kill it...Spiders are cute To bad, there's no "real" spiders around here. The spiders we have in Denmark, are all afraid of their own shadow (Might be, because they're so tiny)

I'm pretty familiar with spiders, I usually catch 2 or 3 a day and take them outside. This looks much different than anything I've seen or been able to look up on the internet though. I can't tell if it has 8 or 10 legs, it might even be 6. It definitely has 10 appendages that connect to the body in the same manner, and have 4 segments each (counting the stub that protrudes from the midsection that each originates from). The front two are just very weird, watching it use them I'd say they are arms, more like the pincers on a crab or scorpion. The second pair are much smaller than the others and seem to not be used either when it's running, but do move. These other legs have almost no tactile grip, it can barely move on a glass surface without using the front two which move much slower than the others.
The picture of the sun spider has a tail section that looks relatively the same, but the rest is very different. It actually does have a beak, and no fangs that I can see.
I didn't have good dreams last night. 'Bugs' are easily what scare me the most. Whatever this thing is, it's definitely a 'bug'. And I'm strictly a catch and release guy. I left this thing in a jar up on the counter though, I'm sure someone else in the family 'took care' of it, as it's no longer there.
There is one other weird looking creature that I've seen in this house. It's almost certainly a spider but it looks like a crab of some sort. It runs sideways, very fast. I've only seen it once, and wasn't even close to catching it.
Here is a little sketch I drew of it. The colors are a bit off, and the legs are much longer in proportion to the body than in this drawing (my artistic skills are very lacking), but it gives a basic idea.

Well until you're satisfied there's no more of them left in the house, spray yourself liberally with Raid before going to sleep.

I still think that looks exactly like that sunspider... Did you follow the link and read the description? You might want to make a quick googlesearch for other pictures of the same species, the link claims there are over 50 different sunspiders...

BTW, Maestro, how on earth did you know about this sunspider thing? I doesn't live in Belgium, right? Either way, Kudos

Gah! I shouldn't have opened this thread. Saw the movie Arachnophobia when I was like four and then, when the movie was done, saw a spider run across my kitchen floor. I was horribly scarred (I'm arachnophobic, basically).
So scarred, in fact, that I get tactile hallucinations just reading this thread and looking at those images.

Kepler, you could sleep on your stomach, but then you are of course presenting other orificies to the nasty hungry critters...

Maestro,
I hadn't seen the picture you posted until now, just looked at the link the first time. The picture looks a lot like it, the drawing in the link doesn't so much. The description is right on though. I guess it is a type of sun spider, nice diagnosis.
The only difference from the one in the picture is that this one has a more narrow body, and the pincers are vertically aligned instead of horizontal, which makes it look like a bird's beak. If my internet connection wasn't so slow I would have saw that before embarrasing myself by displaying my lack of graphic editing skills....

So is a sun spider (solpugids) actually a spider? Or is it a scorpion?

By the way, if you really want to avoid eating bugs, keep your mouth shut when riding your bike close to open water.
