1.5 planets, which I'm pretty shocked about because I'm basically a slob. Maybe it's because I walk or cycle almost everywhere..

Well, here they are:

http://www.redefiningprogress.org/

They claim the footprint quiz is scientifically supported.

Franky, are just mad because you've become aware you enjoy a substantially better lifestyle than most of the world's people?

The test does seem to take location into account. The question about weather on the first page changes the test results. Canucks end up with a bigger footprint then someone in San Fran.

I made a guess on some issues
----------
Food 1.2
-vegetarrian but eats processed food
Mobility 0.6
- this is what you get from flying
Shelter 2.6
-decent size appartment shared with one other
Goods/Services 2.9
- some but not much recycling and conservation
Total Footprint 7.3
--------
I want to know how people get so low on goods/services

if I choose that I create much less waste in the goods choice I drop down to a 2.2

so how do you get a .3???

I picked

US
21-35
1mil+ (I think the Washington DC Metro area is this size)
New York (I had no idea on this one actually)
male
infrequently
half (maybe a bit more)
about the same (complete guess)
2
60-90 (a quick estimate, it might be 90-130)
I think there are 6 housing units (so I picked multistory appartments, but it might be terraced housing units)
yes
than for travel I don't do much of anything but walk/ride a bike (everyonce in a while I will take the metro somewhere) and I fly about 25 hours a year

that gives the breakdown given earlier

and I got

Food 0.9

Mobility 0.5

Shelter 0.9

Goods/Services 1.5

Total Footprint 3.8

We consumed a lot less in Chicago than we do here. Air conditioning is mandatory here. We don't have public transportation, and because we are here we fly occasionally (back to Chicago).

Imagine how different a different country makes it.

When we followed the link Boris posted we got different answeres (It uses the Imperial measuring system!)

CATEGORY ACRES

FOOD 5.2

MOBILITY 0.5

SHELTER 5.7

GOODS/SERVICES 4.2

TOTAL FOOTPRINT 16

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 24 ACRES PER PERSON.

WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 4.5 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE ACRES PER PERSON.

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 3.5 PLANETS.

They do take that into account. That's why they asked yo what city your city's weather most resembled.

I got hit hard on the fact that I needs my meat.

No need to imagine; I'll tell you!

In Turkey, I have a footprint of 6.7 and need 3.7 planets
In the US, I had a footprint of 11.3 and needed 6.3 planets

The biggest factors were (1) I don't drive in Turkey, (2) I eat less meat and way less processed food here, because it simply isn't available and/or cost a fortune, and (3) I moved from my 300-sq.-meter, 5 bedroom house in the States to an 80-sq.meter apartment here. The Turkish score would doubtless be lower if I weren't spending more time on airplanes.

Still, I'm clearly a pig. I blame society.

Took the test two times: One for the status before my father's death (more people in the house and I didn't drive) and one for current status. The extra space makes a much larger difference than driving.
