Red Storm Rising Preview
I'm working (as some of you probably know) on a scenario based on Tom Clancy's novel Red Storm Rising. I'm only about halfway done, but I though that I'd post some stuff.
Also, if any of the good artists out there would like to draw me a Cobra or Apache helicopter, or a M730 Chapparal SAM, I'd be very thankful.
Here is a Chapparal SAM:
and here is the map for the scenario:

Looking forward to this!
BTW it looks from the map that Ireland is going to have it's own civilization slot! I hope I'm right!

Here are some of the units.
Left to Right, top to bottom:
Soviet inf. with RPG
Generic light infantry
NATO inf. with Dragon TOW (yes, it's fired sitting down)
Soviet inf. with SA-7 handheld SAM
NATO inf. with Carl Gustav AT weapon
Leopard 2 (I changed the color scheme)
AMX-30 (I changed the color scheme)
FV-430 (Actually just a modified M-113)
My attempt at a Chapparal SAM
M1A1 Abrams (I changed the turret)

Yes, Ireland has its own slot.
The cities are not connected by road, as the only roads portrayed are superhighways (according to the National Geographic Atlas of the World revised 6th Ed.)
The total population is 670,000.
It will not be able to produce any air units, and the only land units will be Infantry and Light Infantry (as it has neither NATO nor Warsaw Pact techs.)
Good luck!

And here is the heartland of Germany: the Ruhr, Rhineland, and Sarrland.

Where did you get that map BTW? It looks perfect for a project which I've been vaugely considering doing...

Shouldn't the roads look a little more "superhighway-ish"?

I'm afraid that I can't help you with the Chapparal, but here are some Cobras by Bebro and Andrew Livings and an AH-64 by Captain Nemo

The map comes from Harlan Thompson's Eurpoean Map Maker, resized and subtly changed by myself. I've attached it for you. Enjoy!

Oh yes, on that map, jungle represents coniferous forest and glacier is urban.
And Kull: yes, that's getting changed.

And this may be used (it would be very aggravating to change files each turn), but it sure looks pretty darn cool.

That looks very interesting. I thought of day-night cycles for a WW2 carrier-based Pacific war scenario a while ago but couldn't really put it into practice.
I would suggest at least two cycles of each to allow nightfighting air bomber-class units to both deploy and then return to base before daybreak.

Wow......a scenario with Day-Night cycles! That would be something different. Talk about ratcheting up the design difficulty, though! Stealth Air should rule during this period (although it was in it's infancy). All the other unit strengths would change too - probably even movement factors. I agree with Ravagon that two or more turns should encompass each portion of the day-night phase. Nice work so far.

I sketched this out a little bit - I figure how it would work is that the F-19 Frisbees (for those of you who are unfamiliar with the book, these are uber-cool stealth bombers) will have movement 0 in daytime, and range 1 and high movement at night. All other air units will have their normal movements, but much lower (if any) attack values, and very small defense. The navy will operate as it normally would, but land units will have less movement and roads will be less efficient.

How about giving units the "see2" flag during the day and taking it away at night to cause the effect of reduced visibility?

F-19's own. I wish I still had that old game.

I'd give the stealth planes a movement even during the day, as people might want to move them around during the day (a significantly reduced attack rating would be in order though).

As stealth aircraft are very vunerable in daylight, I'd make it so that they had to return to base by dawn. As the crews would need to sleep during the day they shouldn't have any daylight movement whatsoever.

How about I give them daylight movement but make them 0/0?

Dont give them 0 hp though, that will crash the game should they be attacked.

This looks great!
Just one thing, perhaps you could add some new terrain, right now all that irrigation and farmland looks quite boring. It would please the eye to see T-80 racing across wheatfields, hunchbacks roaming the roads and...*wipes away some dribble* Well, ya know.
Oh, and another thing, will there be any naval action?

Better, but I think you should get some new city graphics.
Perhaps a new graphic for the special resource on grassland. A harvester perhaps?

A bit bland to be honest. As Pavlov said, you'd be better off with different city graphics. Captain Nemo's isometric cities would probably work well.

Do I spot a bit of self interest here Pavlov?
Here's a combine Havester made by Tim Smith/Mindseye:

Thaks for the honest input.
BTW, what's the max. number of units you can have? I have 600 and I've only done about 2/3 of NATO forces...
