Diplomats are expelled in wartime; spies are not. You must be using diplomats for espionage functions. If you have spies, you can use them during wartime.

Build the intelligence agency small wonder, and then you can place spies by clicking on the pentagon-shaped button on the city you built the agency in.

Ah ok, I got that thing.
I thought the "e" for "espionage" on my bottom right pannel would do that
Hey, is there any way to use the editor to make bombardment more useful? I fail 4 out of 5 bombardment on an unit.. or it just takes away 1 hp.

Nope, the "e" button just lets you use spies, it doesn't let you place them.
Bombardment is easy to change in the editor, but I'm not an editor wizard so I'll let somebody else field that question.

I think just doubling the bombard values would do the trick.
Adding lethal bombardment to some of the units (the more advanced ones anyway) really fixes that.
Concering espionage, has anyone come across an AI using a Diplomate or spy, because I rarely do.

A bombardment does one hit of damage. The Attack value determines how often you'll hit (attacking a city it is much, much lower than outside). If you want each attack to hit more often increase Attack, if you want each bombardment to do multiple attacks increase Rate Of Fire. If you want to actually kill stuff check the appropriate Lethal Bombardment flag.

Yes, I've encountered the AI using espionage. One time, I was playing my own custom Poland civ when I was notified just after a series of wars that spread throughout the world of which I never truly participated in (though I did get gold and tech to sign an alliance) that I caught and killed an agent from Persia. Then, a few turns later, I was notified that my military plans were stolen. I then proceeded to place an agent in Persia on the first try then exposed his mole. When I did this, Persia promptly declared war on me and started yet another world war.
So yes, the AI does use it....maybe not when you're ahead, since Persia was much stronger than I was at the time and only two tiles of water separated the two civs.

You can still plant spies after you are at war with the civ, as long as you had an embassy.

See the screenshot below of compiled espionage pop-ups from the "Banana Island" game in the Strategy Forum. I think I missed one or two, also.
The "Our spy in York has been captured" was notable to me only becuase it was the first time I've lost a spy to a counter-espionage play from an AI during peacetime.

thanks... I guess my AIs are too cheap, but every time I filther out a mole I get cought. I wished they fixed this, instead installing a spy to a certain, and only filtering out that civ's spy, just do a rounded job for all civs, if it finds one, it lets you know. This mission would only filther out one mole if there are more.
If this seems to easy... just increase the price.
BTW: Catt, I'm guessing there is no message for the AI using a diplo.
