Status report (especially for the ones, who are looking forward to round 2):
after we were all in the lobby, but we havn't seen dregman and he hasn't seen us, we started the game a little delayed, after dregman had updated something.
Alas, we could only play 10 rounds and are now in round 48. But there was action in this rounds. I met Scooter and the germans and have now peace with the germans. We agreed on an alliance against the ai (i.e. we will attack ourselfes later).
The next game time will probably be saturday evening(GMT+1).

Oh yes, I'm one of those geeks that don't know any www-letter-addresses but every site with its own IP, of course!
Since Martin didn't get his file without using GetRight either I'm pretty sure it wasn't me - I'll try again this weekend.

Hey Maquiladora and mapfi
I have been running our savegame file on my vast computer network (2 comps, an XP and win2k) just to see what happens. Unfortunately, the game plays without crashing, although I notice a lot more resynchs when the older comp (win2k) is host. I can join, kick, & open/close AIs as host and it all works well. Human vs. human combat is fine, but again there are only 2 human players in my tests. I don’t have to run my XP machine in win9x mode to get stable play either. I guess all it proves is that LAN MP games are more stable than Internet ones. By the way, I beat both of you in 50 turns!
I guess I should try to find a time when someone wants to test Internet MP. I would like to find out if running my XP machine in win9x mode makes any difference. Mapfi – you got any spare time this weekend? I could fit it in any time if you want to try connecting again. I’m beginning to wonder if XP machines will even work in Internet play...

@dregman, scooter: I can definite CAN play today. Only question is: when. I quite sure can manage to arrive at home 7pm, maybe earlier. Is 7pm ok for you?

Well i just did some small tests with SMIFFGIG, on his WinXP Pro (ADSL connection) machine, and my Win98se (56k conn.) machine.
He was able to host me and i was able to host him. He used Win98 compatible mode on WinXP and hes also using a no-cd exe. Either way, it worked both ways, thats the important thing.

That's encouraging news Maquiladora! I'll see if I can get my Dad and brother to run some Internet tests with me. Compatibility mode for sure!

Well, nice game today. We are now in round 95 (1700 bc or so) and had some nice wars with the ai. Hordes of slavers come to my towns. I took 1 irish city - scooter took 2 german ones. Next playtime will probably be thursday evening.

I’m willing to play the 3rd place finisher from the other game! I guess that would be The Arsenal. Or should we wait for the 3rd game to finish and have a 3-player game like the original plan? I think that The Arsenal and I have similar play styles, so it might be a good game!
Is there a 4th game going on?

For some reason my last post didn't make it. Not that it was full of great news or anything...
I've lost track of who I'm supposed to be playing in the second round. Don't have a lot of time to sort all the games out for another week or so - but if someone knows off the top of their head what's going on then I'll find some time to play.

This is the situation (as far as i could fathom):
Code:
|
Game 1
1. Haupt. Dietrich -
2. Oerdin -
3. Wise Ass -
Game 2
2. Maquiladora 2nd
3. mapfi/Mauro 1st
4. ETB 3rd
Game 3
1. Wildbore -
2. King Eirie -
3. Immortal Wombat -
Game 4
1. Toni 1st
2. Shadow 2nd
3. TheArsenal 3rd
Game 5
1. mkalthoff Playing
2. scooter Playing
3. dregman Playing |
No idea on games 1 and 3 yet.

I wouldnt like to guess on the second round fixtures until the other games are either confirmed or the player/s are pulling out. It would certainly be easier to work out fair fixtures with 12 players confirmed rather than 15 unsure though.
edit: retarded spelling

I think King E has pulled out. Neither myself nor Wildbore, nor AFAIK, Locutus has heard from him since his appearance at the 11th hour last time. Myself and Wildbore are attempting to organise a continuation of our game.

I think my two opponets are out as well, If you two have not started and would like a third err... person to beat ( ) I wouldn't mind jumping in that game and then game one gan be scrapped caus neither of those two have shown much interest .

Sounds good to me! If a three-game first round will work that is. I'm sure we can work something out.
Have you got ICQ or another instant messenger?

Okay heres a little update to whats happening, it gets smaller everyday
Code:
|
Game 1
2. Maquiladora - 2nd
3. mapfi/Mauro - 1st
4. ETB - 3rd
Game 2
1. Wildbore -
2. Immortal Wombat -
3. Wise Ass -
Game 3
1. Toni - 1st
2. Shadow - 2nd
3. TheArsenal - 3rd
Game 4
1. mkalthoff - Playing
2. scooter - Playing
3. dregman - Playing
** Round 2 **
Expert Group - Game 5
Drafted Winner 1 - mapfi/Mauro
Drafted Winner 3 - Toni
Expert Group - Game 6
Drafted Winner 2 - ???
Drafted Winner 4 - ???
Secondary Group - Game 7
Drafted Second 1 - Maquiladora
Drafted Second 2 - ???
Drafted Second 3 - Shadow
Drafted Second 4 - ???
Rookies Group - Game 8
Drafted Third 1 - ETB
Drafted Third 2 - ???
Drafted Third 3 - TheArsenal
Drafted Third 4 - ??? |
12 is much easier The secondary games and the rookie games can still be split into 2 players a game but that just makes it easier on the eye for now. Afterall its not about the best player, its about the best Lemur

Maquiladora's summary looks good to me, except that I will do the drafts for round 2 - for the simple reason that I'm more neutral than Maq
Too bad there are only 12 players left, I suppose that also had to do with the fact that this tourney came at a very, very bad time for me, real-life wise...

I think its a pretty standard drop-out rate, Locutus, whether you were around or not.

I suppose im technically not neutral, i just thought id set it out so more games could get underway soon.
I think its better if the rookies and secondary groups arent mixed and the expert games are 1v1, seeing as the competition will be more fierce, probably.
