I suppose we don't feel the need.

Actually, sad to say, Winston Peters would fit in rather well in this country.

At least we actually care about native tribes, not try and kill them out.

We're proud of our historic traditions.

You mean traditions like outrageous BS?

The only reason the Maoris survived better was they were stronger and nearly kicked you out.

OTOH you do have those funny-looking chaps in the orange and green who pull out a banjo/ukelele and sing Waltzing Matilda in the middle of the rugby field.
Now that takes courage...

Ya I know but you didn't get convicts did you? Its very cool to have convicts in the past, which means lots of spooky gaols and scarey artefacts like the cat of nine tails

Actually I love New Zealand, beautiful, beautiful country - and our Kiwi friends - huge chip on their shoulder and all

Well that song may have just saved me a 15 hour flight from LAX to Australia.

However I also hear that Ausie chicks like Americans which is a big advantage over going to Europe.

Yeah right -- your European settler-anscestors politely asked for the land from the natives.

So should I move to Australia?

My sister recently moved to Melbourne from Greece and my wife is from Adelaide but she really does not want to go back. She says that she prefers it here in Germany more than any other place including Greece and the US.

So is it worth it?

So long...

Clancy of the Overflow ...
Banjo Paterson - Sydney or the Bush - late 1880's ...

I had written him a letter which I had, for want of better
Knowledge, sent to where I met him down the Lachlan, years ago,
He was shearing when I knew him, so I sent the letter to him,
Just "on spec", addressed as follows, "Clancy, of The Overflow".
And an answer came directed in a writing unexpected,
(And I think the same was written with a thumb-nail dipped in tar)
Twas his shearing mate who wrote it, and verbatim I will quote it:
"Clancy's gone to Queensland droving, and we don't know where he are."

In my wild erratic fancy visions come to me of Clancy
Gone a-droving "down the Cooper" where the Western drovers go;
As the stock are slowly stringing, Clancy rides behind them singing,
For the drover's life has pleasures that the townsfolk never know.

And the bush hath friends to meet him, and their kindly voices greet him
In the murmur of the breezes and the river on its bars,
And he sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plains extended,
And at night the wond'rous glory of the everlasting stars.

I am sitting in my dingy little office, where a stingy
Ray of sunlight struggles feebly down between the houses tall,
And the foetid air and gritty of the dusty, dirty city
Through the open window floating, spreads its foulness over all

And in place of lowing cattle, I can hear the fiendish rattle
Of the tramways and the buses making hurry down the street,
And the language uninviting of the gutter children fighting,
Comes fitfully and faintly through the ceaseless tramp of feet.

And the hurrying people daunt me, and their pallid faces haunt me
As they shoulder one another in their rush and nervous haste,
With their eager eyes and greedy, and their stunted forms and weedy,
For townsfolk have no time to grow, they have no time to waste.

And I somehow rather fancy that I'd like to change with Clancy,
Like to take a turn at droving where the seasons come and go,
While he faced the round eternal of the cash-book and the journal --
But I doubt he'd suit the office, Clancy, of "The Overflow".

Exactly my point, Zobo -- aborigines were not treated any better than Amerindians were in the Americas.

Maybe we could argue that if women were indeed in power all these years that nothing would have happened and the most evil thing that would ever happen would be cat fights ?!

No, I'm serious you know.

If there were only white on earth, we would have racism problems :

Blue eyes will hate green eyes ...
Blond hair will attack brun air, red hair would impose their race supremacy !!

But if people were all black, as black are all identical, it would be technically impossible to be racist !
