Following the idea Gelvan and myself worked out last time I'm for the mysticism-philo-mono thingy. Yeahh it's our masterplan (double G's road to victory ).
Actually it's really a good one: at first the free tech than with mono a very good unit for early days and mikey for our way to becoming Republic/Democratic.

With our poor start, I think the chances of being first to Philosophy are slight at best.
POTTERY FIRST, prepping camels for HG in the meantime.
Then Republic and get ready to grow!

We're going to Alpha Centauri, so the "win now" plan for early crooks gets us nowhere.
I do agree that Mike's is a decent alternative to HG, but it will take us awhile to get there.

Republic first! We had better get it and switch as soon as possible, before we end up with too many units and cities to support easily. With the increase in productivity in Republic, we will get to the other techs that much faster.

We don't have a single "white" tech, meaning we have not been first to...anything!
All the more reason to say -- NOT MYSTICISM.

I'd say Mysticism and of course Philosophy will give us a lead in both happiness (temples produce two happy citizen - or is that ToT only...?) and technology.
And I agree with John, Mike lasts longer than Hamm's Garden and has a greater influence on people. It's senseless to make a republic if all the extra trade has to be spent on luxury. And by the way this'll get us crusaders. *g* even if you guys don't want to use them *sniff*

we never said we won't use them, we just want to go to AC, that doesn't mean we can't play a little before we get there.

By playing for an AC outcome, we are delaying warfare to a future date. It is best we prepare for that now (with infrastructure investment and lomg-term technology plans). We need Republic and Democracy quickly to take advantage of production possibilities, we need to maintain and agrssive yet defensice posture (entirely possible), and we need to emphasize those techs which support that.
Republic now, philosophy next. We must have Mike's Chapel as we go into Republic. Republic will give us the production we need to get Mike's.

hehe...let's make it easy--> all votes from now on for mysticism (instead of trying to cripple ourselves with Republic)

Fear not Shade, a change of government would require another poll in this instance or at least until we are set up for it.

two people voted for mysticism->philosophy
4 voted for mysticism->philosophy->monotheism
so in my mind, that means 6 for mysticism->philsophy.
5 voted for republic, so that beats out the four that voted monotheism after mysticism->philosophy.
the only tie is pottery(4votes) and monotheism after mysticism->philosophy.
did you understand that? i can barely comprehend it and i made it up
