To All The Mods
I think it would be real cool if u guys made a sniper unit. really high (i mean really high) offense, low defence.
It would add a new twist....

Sorry Uppercut, but I do not think that Civ is appropriate for a "sniper" unit. You want a sniper in a Tactical game, not a Strategic game like Civ.
(A Warrior unit does NOT represent just one person, nor do any of the other units!)

Actually, Jaybe, I think it's intriguing in a certain way. Sort of like Armies, which are obviously special application units. I envision a one-shot unit, for difficult cirumstances (e.g., powerful defender in a mountain fort), but tremedously weak on defense... maybe it can only function in enemy territory, and only without defensive cover.
Re the nature of Civ3 units, there is some justification in the training expense of highly specialized versus standard forces. IIRC, various special forces in the US were running at a 10X expense rate (or higher) as compared to regular forces throughout the '90s.

Like an invisible Cruise Missile, perhaps with lower bombardment/RoF ...
Costs 120 shields, and such a "special operations" unit would be only produced if you had the surplus production and some special op in mind to use it on.

Yeah sorry guys for making it in the wrong forum but it wouldnt let me create a new thread in the creation forum for some reason.
Jaybe: A sniper unit is appropriate for civ3. Lesse, we have everything from warriors to tanks to stealth's to, hey, NUKES. Not much tactics in nukes now are there? pick target, click. stfu if you don't like my idea, but you can't say it "isn't appropriate". I'm not saying make a unit that can attck from 3 or 4 squares away, im just saying that they should make a sniper unit that has a very high attack but very low defence.

I think that we all agreed upon that a unit does not represent a soldier, but thousands of them, like a battalion. An Infantry unit would include several different weapons such as machine guns, mortars, anti-tank weapons and snipers.

In my mod, the sniper will be invisible, detect invisible, and ZoC have a strong bombard (12), but 1 firepower, 1 range. It will also have a 1 HP penalty (regular sniper only has 2 hp), nominal attack (2), and a average defense (6).
These numbers dont mean a whole lot since all units will be different, however, I feel it would meld in well with the regular game with these stats, available with replaceable parts.
The AI flags are defense and artillery.
It would best used as a supplement to any other industrial/modern unit.
(You know Mechs, tanks and plasma infantry :P)
