Foreign Affairs, Part Ii
Let's offer King Hydey some general advice on how we would like our foreign affairs handled.
(We all know how much King Hydey loves his foreign affairs!! )

It has never seemed to me that Dips do much in the way of defending. I say send them out to find other sivs and establish embassies.

They are good on defense for 2 reasons.

1. Use them to bribe barbs, reducing need for defensive units in cities. Usually with a single bribed unit, you can defuse an entire barb invasion.
2. No upkeep costs -- critical in a representative govt.

I agree about bribing barbs, and even incoming enemy units (which you did not mention). I was thinking in terms of against other Dips.

I think stealing some techs would be a very good idea.

Looks like it's going to be hard to maintain a "peace and defense" approach if this is how we use our dips...

Your Foreign Minister strongly advises that we use diplomacy for exploration and defense.

Before trade I sometimes reach the delima of not wanting to support more troops or pay for city improvements, and the need to build something. So diplomats searve a purpose there, I have had armies of 15-20 diplos at my disposal and ransacked a attacking civ, and then some just hang arround and become spy's

Tech stealing would be a good idea to close the gaps in some tech areas. I think bribing will not be such an important factor as I did remember from studying the screenies were are short on gold most of the time. Of course establishing embassies may also be a good idea but in the first instance we should use them to gain techs.

With Hydey's Camel Army, we will close the tech gap quickly without resorting to tech stealing.
Plus we'll be rich.

Please , if you feel the need to slag off the King and call him Queen at least go all the way and say she instead of he.

the people begin to slag me off, it may well be time to hand control back to John.

Please calm down, Sire, these petulant threats are beneath Your Majesty. May I remind the King that your idle Minister of War has some bored troops who would be delighted to assist their King in "re-educating" a quarrelsome Minister?

There goes our taxes. Now we citizens know what the ministers do with all the gold they get from us: bribing armies and fighting among themselves little power hungry wars .
