a virus wiped out all my civ2 stuff. I did manage to save my Hall of fame though. That is all that matters.

Civ II is the first thing I put on a new computer -- it's my way of runninga test to see if the machine is working -- I figure if I can't play civ, then there is something wrong with the box.
I've had SMAC for about three years now and have yet to open it...Ditto for MOO2. I can't wait for civ III to get to discount prices so I can have it (unplayed) on my shelf as well.

You really gotta play SMAC It's the best TBS made. Makes Civ 2 look quaint, though I like Civ2 in a nostalgic way.

248Mb, 2004 files, 96 folders...

How many of those files are saved games? At up to 150k a pop they can add up quickly. Mine are either zipped or erased after a while.

Hmmmm... someone posted in Other Games that no one posted anymore in CivII forums, so I came to give a look.
Actually, I stopped dead playing CivII when SMAC demo came out (although for the first 6 or 7 months I kept thinking that CivII was still "somewhat" superior to SMAC....). Except a very short interval when a former colleague rescued the MGEdition and I "tutored" him for a while over my former company's lan...
The options in this poll don't befit me tho, because I will never state that "I lost my interest" in CivII, and I'm NOT playing CivIII (and I'ma breaking the legs of anyone who told that :grrr: )
I would just say that my interest in a classic jewel like CivII is in a "suspended animation" mode, and considering that I'm getting off SMAC (with lotsa effort...), I might give CivII a kick again next fall, especially since when I last played it I didn't even have an Internet account, leave alone knowing of Apolyton existence...

ALWAYS Civ2 until someone comes up with a better game to make scenarios with. That to me is the main attraction of anything in life - the possibility of co-creation.
Plus I learn so much history from other scenario makers in a fun way.
By the way, we have been having a series of wars in the Spanish forum about Civ2 and Civ3. In the end, there are more Civ2 fundamentalists than Civ3 fundamentalists...
Civ2 is a cult game. Civ3 will fade away and be "one of those games"

I did not "weigh" my CivII files,
but if saved files are light, Mods with sounds are heavy! :
There may be several hundreds of Mégabytes (Mo) on my disk.

I keep coming back every once in a while. I've tried SMAC (didn't like it) and CTPII (started to really get into it for a little bit), Civ I (so limited compared to Civ II) and various other games (online muds, Baulders Gate, WarCraft, Rage of Mages etc) but keep coming back to Civ II. Interest for me is up at the moment after reading a couple of the succession games, but with most of them being in MPE format, not sure how long my interest will last this time

Civ2 does seem to be a game you can put down for a while then suddenly take up again. I don't do this generally with games..............I play them for a bit then forget them.

Well keep a machine. You never know it might turn out to be a valuable antique. War's for instance is the first instance of a machine that crashes more often than it works.

I'm not sure. I'm not actually playing the game at the moment but I still have a disk somewhere and remember the game fondly.

I can't believe this is still on page one. I guess that Civ II is still perceived as better than Civ III by many people.
