Why bother with a message board if you want to waste your time in a chat room?

Gee off the medication today or what?
Some folks like the instant response of a chat room (i'm personally not a big fan of chat rooms), and others prefer posting and checking back. I think Mark should be congratulated for trying to satisfy both types of posters. Not berated by one frustrated pup.

Opera 6.03/Linux: I can see the userlist, I can write a message, I get refreshes - but can't see the chat itself.
For now I'll just run Mozilla at school for the chat and Opera at home for forums . (believe me, X11 is the best thing that ever happened to graphical user interfaces)

X11 is a monstrosity that'd done more to hold back Linux adaption than all MS machinations combined. You free software mavricks should get your act together and come up with a new standard that doesn't make the Windows graphics rendering engine look like God Almighty in comparison.
As for the chat, it works for me now, but the buttons are still placed like they were in the pic I posted upstream.

Gee Chris... off you medication today
What's wrong with MarkG trying to IMPROVE his site.
I give credit to people who at least try new things instead of stagnating...
I don't understand how you can have a problem with this. But I'm sure (seriously) that it has nothing to do with the fact that you are a mod on another site

Both of you taking stupid pills Ming?
I couldn't care less about the Chat at CFC either.
The whole point of message boards is to post, not sit in a chat room, all it does is detract from the board.
I do like the way you both get nice and defensive, and cut straight to the insults, very classy.

Uhhhh... this is a Gaming Site... Not a "message board".
The Forums are only a "single" element of this site. People come here for many reasons... the forums being one, but they also come for downloads... news/information... and other things that this site offer.
Again... what's your problem with having a chat room as well. ?
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that nobody does. And judging from the traffic today, the new format seems to be a big hit and people really like it.

So, since you don't like my opinion, you and your bro feel free to get personal and insulting.
Nothing like "company men".
So tell me Ming, how does the chat room help gaming, oh font of forbidden knowledge?

The same way forums do... it allows people to talk about games. Already, if you had bothered to check what people were saying, people have been discussing games, strategies, setting up games... sure, there is other stuff too, just like you would find in the OTF, but it is the same thing as the forums, just live and quicker.

Yes, I told Mark he was on medication and a frustrated pup, how could I have forgotten I posted that?
Rah over-reacted, and you are trying to cover, just admit it and move on.

What woud be cool is a live mesage board .
Maybe it shoud have the First thing typed not the last, and/or the topic of the chat.

Not interested in chat rooms, mainly because I'm working, so i can't read cross chatter, so a message board works better, all i have seen on the header snipets, haven't seen a single gaming comment yet in a single one.
Perhaps it's time for you to say something else insulting at this juncture.

You are the king of overreacting... You are proving how much you overact just by your posts so far here.
You are the one with a bee in his butt today. You call a man's work crap, and then when somebody defends him, you get on your high horse. It's a two way street.

Mark doesn't provide this site just for you... but for all members of the site. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean Mark should only cater to your needs. Again... people have been using it today alot, so some people must like it.
And the only reason why you haven't seen a gaming comment is because you didn't bother to really look. Happy Sun Shine was setting up a MP game with Makeo, there was discussion of Moo3 and other games...
And people were talking about the viability of Civ III for MP... hmmm.. sounds like gaming talk to me

Also it would be nice if the names of people in the chat room where links to their profile and the mesage was a link to the chat.

Nice to be able to enter the chat room without cookies. So I tried it with Opera, I enabled the java error messages so I get now tons of them with Opera 6.04 and I am not able to see the content of the chat text box just the windows stndart background color.
Code:
|
http://apolyton.net/forums/shoutbox.php?page_shout=loader&lid=XXXX
Error:
name: TypeError
message: Value on left hand side of '.' is not convertible to Object: window.parent.frames["chat"] |
In addation to the error messages I get tons of pop ups if I have a window of the chat room open. It seems me to log out.

That he has...
But...
As I said... the king of over reacting... Thanks for making that point perfectly clear to all of us

That you guys are behaving rather badly?
Not at all.
I notice that when I gave my reason for why I don't care for chat, you had another insulting thing to say.
Did I ever say it was just for me?
If you can't take criticism, why do you bother with community?
(Time for another personal barb from you, I'm sure).
