Loans?
Two questions.
1)Has anyone ever managed the AI to grant him a loan? I know i haven't. If so how does it work? Do you pay an interest fee every turn or something?
2)Is it safe to clear jungles tiles early? I mean with the propability of coal appearing on them after steam engine?.

1) Never.
2) Don't worry about it (I think).

1. I have. I was allied with India against the French. They offered me 75 gold lump sum, but I had to pay them 10 GPT for 20 turns. Not a very favorable loan.
2. It dosn't matter if you have cleared the jungle, the coal will still appear.

Regarding Loans: When you are in Anarchy the only cash flows you have are payments from and to the AI. If you have few gold in the treasury, you are paying GPT to AI for trade deals and you go into anarchy, then you definitely may want to get a loan so you do not default on your trade payments.

Thanks for the info guys about the coal. And guess what, i just confirmed it 10 minutes ago. I started clearing jungle tiles after i discovered steam engine, when i bought repl.parts from the Germans. A rubber resource appeared on the just cleared jungle tile i was irrigating!.
And the AI has never offered me a loan.(Emperor difficulty).

Never had the AI offer a loan, but I've set my own up before on the negotiations screen (just exchange a lump sum for gold per turn).

Strategic resources are allocated at the beginning of the game and do not disappear if the terrain they are on is altered. However, if a resource is depleted, the new source will only show up in a tile that currently has the correct terrain (I think). So clearing all the jungle out of your empire might not be such a good idea. Uranium depletes relatively frequently, and it appears in jungles (and mountains), IIRC.

What can of terms can you offer? I mean, are you able to be a real loan shark, or can you only stand to make a small percentage of the loan back?
