Here we go again with the "let's conquer Canada" rhetoric. Oh well. Keeps people's minds off more important matters I guess.

Personally I'm infavour of the Gurkha mercenary idea.
Why die when you can pay someone else to do it?
Let's just abolish the regular military and replace it with some sort of National Service Organization or something.
Oh, but we should upgrade the airforce and bring back the Airbourne Regiment so we can destroy THird World countries and feel cool about being a minor protectorate of the mighty Empire of America...

Conquer Canada, eh? The last time I checked, I was hypothesizing about a possible future scenario that was similar to NAFTA, except on steroids. If that's the equivalent to sending in a half million shock troops, that's news to me, Loif.

I agree!
I also predict that it shall be known as the United American States, and it shall be one of the ten kingdoms of the world (led, of course, by my state, the UCS )
Funny, though, that you said "Beast" (sorry, I'm much too into the whole prophetic aspects of Revelation)

Join the US. Great, then we can be future terrorist targets.
Besides, if Canada joins the US, what flag will American travellers put on their backpacks?

Actually, since the Atlantic Charter, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand almost act as one on military issues. We should continue the close relationship.
This implies that the four of us coordinate on equipping our armed services so that we do not duplicate efforts and have the same ammo, etc.
We should also, move towards some sort of economic union as well - no tarrifs and perhaps a common currency.
Down the road, we might invite the Irish to join us a well.

I've seen some serious predictions that Anglo-Canada will join the U.S. soon. The trigger will be Quebec finally declaring independence, then the Maritimes join the U.S., and then the rest of Canada comes along. This whole process is supposed to be complete by 2010, so you people in Quebec City better get going if you want to stay on schedule.

Andrew, This sounds quite reasonable. When is Quebec going to hold another referendum?

Canada isn't going to join the US. Gatekeeper's "NAFTA on 'roids" might happen in response to the EU, but no way is Canada going to forfeit their sovereignty to the US.
Look at it this way - if Albertans (pick any province) think that Ottawa doesn't care about their particular wants/needs, what would they think Washington would do for them? Jack ****, that's what. Ontario would go from big fish in little pond to little fish in big freakin' lake. And even if most of Canada wanted to join the US (yeah, right), don't forget the Frenchies.

In the event Canada wanted to join the US, we would be the one picking and choosing the provinces we let in.

I certainly don't think all anglo provinces will join the US, but there are a couple that are heading that way.

If Quebec bordered on a nation it very much agrees with politically, don't you think a helluva lot more people would have voted to join that country rather than stay in Canada? You should also factor out all of the government aid Quebec gets. And the fact that most PMs are from Quebec.
They're different situations, because Quebec is chickenshit and doesn't know what it wants doesn't mean Alberta will be in 20-30 years.

We don't want any Canadian provinces.
We have a nice, even number of 50 states. Why ruin that?

Snore. Alberta's been discontent for 80 years and it hasn't gone anywhere either...
The reason you're getting all the attention nowadays is that Quebec's calmed down so the media needs somebody to focus on.
Canada's like a never-ending reverse episode of Big Brother...everybody wants to leave but they can't...

Discontent is on the rise in Alberta, unless you want to assert it's falling?
The 80 years comment is curious, Alberta wasn't very financially well off for the past 80 years, it's only recently.

I'd be willing to bet most of the people who voted to stay part of Canada during the last poll in Quebec did so because they knew they'd be financially better off as part of Canada than alone.

To quell the angry civilians, since most of Canada doesn't want to fix the problems but just tell everyone to deal with it.
