Status statistics? :)
Maybe some statistics about Apolyton members could exist, saying how many settlers, princes, kings... we have (well I found this no where yet). Would be curious to know how many active members Apolyton got since its beginning, or how many more-than-10 posts users we got (since less than 10 is not really active).

Good idea. half of Apolytoners are "dead souls".
Anyway, I love statistics.

It seems Apolyton was in a stagnation in year 2000,
and boomed in 2001... But now I guess we may have a serious drop.... it's 3000 to go! Perhaps the advent of civ3 will help...
I registered in 2000, would do it earlier if Apolyton accepted my mailbox.

Nah... we only had a boom last year because of Civ III, so I guess we'll end at a level below last year's registrations. And the stagnation in 2000 was much becasue of the fact there wasn't any major releases a new Civ sequel or anything like that. But in general it looks like the amount of registrations is always at a very high level, so that means it's not seasonal. What is of course good, because that means there's always activities around here.

You can bet the high number in 2001 was due to the pending release and release of CIVIII.
Trifna, and I hope this thread is proof, (thanks ixnay37)
that the type of questions you asked can generally be easy to find on your own.

It's RTS, not TBS. That's what Poly primarily covers.

So, if we don't count the settler we have 2926 regulars (of whom, a good portion don't post anymore) on Apolyton.
I would imagine that a hundred settlers or so, are post-no-post-count (try saying it 5 times in a row, fast) OT creatures only.
I suggest that apolyton users database be cleaned.
A poster with less than 80 posts, that hasn't posted in the last 2 years, should be deleted, as he won't comeback.
A poster with less than 40 posts that hasn't posted in the last year - should also be deleted.
All posters that have less than 10 posts and haven't posted anywhere in the last 6 months, can also be deleted.
It would do wonders to clean up this place. Both of DLs and users than never meant to stay and don't mean to return.

But then we would have a really hard time topping the "current number of registered users" if we went and deleted most of them.

Rasbellin; Apolyton needs lebensraum.
Oh, and leave it the way it is. Someone may wish to return after years.
And anyway, big number of members attract new ones.

Lebensraum? Are you perhaps refering the "Lebensraum" Hitler wanted to have in the 1930's? So should we establish the 4th Reich here on Poly? Intriguing idea...

There is no need to delete the database unless space is an issue. Which I don't think it is.

Poly covers whatever seems to fit the interests of its patrons and owners. How else to explain EU coverage to some degree on the Misc section? Or Ron coverage extensively?
My guess is that if lots of Poly members worked on SC4 buildings and cities, Mark would give it a place in the database or something like that. If the interest is there, it isn't going to be too much work for Markos, and there isn't an already establilished site that holds the traffic, I would guess that a game would be added to the forums.
In this case, though, I would agree with you that SC4 won't be added. There simply won't be the interest.

Please notice that I said what ACS primarily covers. That means other games are also covered, like RoN and EU. RoN is covered mostly because of the links to former MicroProse and the fact that Brian Reynolds is leading the team at BHG. EU is covered because there's a large interest for it and because it's a strategy game. And these arguements seem to be IMO the reasons why Dan and Markos have chosen to cover those titles too.

Why not Magic? That has turns in it.
Nah, just kidding, I don't mind the site as it is. But if you have some time in the course of your activities, could you funnel some people towards the Alpha Centauri area?

Sim City didn't help Sidgames
-
Apolyton's charm is its focus.
What it SHOULD do if it expands- is cover MOO more... and become a MOO III hub, because MOO looks to become although ahving a smaller audience, be a better overall game than CIV III.
Apolyton covers EU, but that's already done by another site- we won't be a feeder however, MOO has a chance here Perhaps Apoly should focus on MOO for the new Moolennium

what a spamfest would that result
(sorry about bad english)
no to database cleaning.
maybe we could have HoMM section?
