I think it worked out damn well.
As I said, Aztecs and Rome are world tech leaders, Germany came on strong this session, getting back in the hunt.
Still, the Aztecs and Romans are clearly the world leaders, the German allaince trails.

Good session, The Roman’s golden age is starting to end, as we cannot keep up with the Aztecs in caravan production or science rate. But we did beat them for the dam, close call close call.

The once -supreme- scotts, are now weak. Starting out in forest and mountain really turned out to hurt after all. That being said, democracy has found its way into Scotland, and things are looking up. Profits are being made and science although way behind, is now at an excellent rate.
The Scotts have now traded with every civ on the globe, an accomplishment, no other civ can attest to. Trading armadas to far reaching aztec and english ports will be a priority next session for scotland, for they must find a worthy identity. If it is world merchant, so be it.

I've never been in a game with six people where everyone showed up five times in a row. Actually I was surprised we made it to three.

Good reliable group for MNC......Starting a new game next week......chris has a great ancient scenario hed like to try out with the group and I checked it out and it seems pretty sweet.
I like the concept...only thing is, map is just as big as one we just played on, perhaps bigger.
We have until Monday until we decide where to go next week.

The English aren't winning too many prizes for size either!
As for next week, although I am open to ideas I think that a map with less land would be more interesting as we would reach the mid game more quickly, and once people don't devote most of their resources to settling all the empty land they will be more inclined to expand through conquest. That isn't to say that war is the only interesting type of game.
I also prefer islands to one big continent.
Also, as others suggested, perhaps we should play Bloodlust or Spaceship so that there is a specific goal. And we need to decide on simultaneous play, RR and howitzer use. Personally I preferred the simultaneous play with such a large group. I am also happy to try without RRs as it should speed up each turn. Howitzers didn't come in to the last game but I am again happy to forgo them.

OK, for this upcoming week, since last week we ended the other game, we need a new game concept for the upcoming week. There were a few things I think that kept us from having any warfare, one was distance of course and the other perhaps was slow development.
I think for Monday, we should try a medium map, 2x production, simul moves and to make the game a bit different, perhaps lets make it a no alliance and no wonder game. Or perhaps one wonder.
I'm not suggesting we make this a destroy the other civs as fast as possible game, but I think we should go for a bloodlust type game, where the game ends when there is one dominant civ on the globe. The idea would be that if a dominant civ begins to develop, the other civs of the world rally together to crush the superior civ.......then another superior will develop and it will be the worlds duty to keep them in line as well. Only the most resiliant civ will be able to fend off everyone else and remain superior till the end.
I can see it now, larger civs getting nibbled on from every direction from the weaker civs, biting away peices of the empire.....well it could be like that
So what do you guys think?

I'm a little weary of 2x production. Its fundamentally changes the game, making the advantages of a republic or democracy almost nil. You can play it that way, but it isn't Civilization 2.
Smaller map, no alliances, wonder etc.....thats fine by me.

I am quite happy to play 1X or 2X and all of the above settings. Most MP games that I have participated in so far have been 2X so it may be an interesting change to play 1X.
Although civs wouldn't develop as quickly, each turn should be quicker as there will be fewer units.

Well I don’t care for the no Alliances because I think they happen anyway, but if we are going to play that way be sure to spell out the rules, such as no tech trading, no equal stealing of techs, and so on. But I will play whatever.
As far as your theory that the little ones will nibble on the larger ones Drake, I think it will go more like this, the large one will attack a small civ and then the small one will get ganged up on by everyone trying to get a piece of it. But who knows, perhaps the theory of balance of power will work out..
See you all tomorrow.

Well, the 2x or 1x thing doesnt really matter to me either, I was just throwing it out there.
The whole bloodlust idea is that "there can be only one" (taken from some cheesy movie), and that its an all or nothing glory game. Whether it will play out that way is of course probably different.
We can discuss when we get together tommorow.

The Cheesy Movie is the Highlander.
Pure Bloodlust works for me. Just wanted to get some kind of rules settled down so we don’t waste all our time discussing.

OK, how about this...simul moves, medium map 1x1x, no wonders, no barbs, king level (to counter the no happy wonders), bloodlust theme and no attacks until say 500 BC or so (maybe 1 ad), just so someone with a bad start doesnt get wiped right out from the get go, and its not a boring horseman vs warrior war.
If we do play simul, and war is the emphasis, we should have some sort of policy about attack order, otherwise it will be chaos. (Unless we want it to be chaos of course )
See yall round 7

incidentally now that the clocks have all changed 7pm for you is 11 am for us in australia now I think, rather than 9 am. So we would be able to start playing earlier if that would suit you guys.

OK well, its monday again and time to find out what the deal is for tonight....are we going to continue the game we started last week?
I assume if we do, Pro will not want to continue, as his civ is in the "hopeless" area. Frank appears to have a big lead and Makeo isnt that far behind. Holmes and I arent off the map but we're a long way from making a run at the top.
So, we will we be continuing on with this game tonight guys?

Personally I would like a new game. It seems that with our extremely peaceful first game, we got the othere extreme in the no peace death match which followed.
Besides I was on the down fall due to world wide counter strikes by all my opponents, and since the world has so few serious powers their more interested in attacking me than restablishing world power balances...if anyone else has an interest in a new one instead I'm alot happier to go along.

eh...
Doesnt that have the same problems as the large random world?
I do have a little world map that we might consider. Good for 5-6 players.
