CIV 2 - Like a pair of comfortable old slippers
I haven't played CIV 2 in about 2 years...
...until recently that is.
Every day I take a train to work, an hour and Half each way, and my usual way of passing the time was to read a book. You can imagine how expensive that gets (about £6 a week - not including the cost of new book shelves or wives etc)
About a week ago I installed Civ2 on my company laptop, next best option (or so I thought) as NT4 is incompatable with CIV III. Sat down in the carrage, logged in and...
....AAAAH and it all came flooding back .
There is something about CIV 2 that CIV 3 fails to capture. Not sure what it is, or whether I will keep the feeling over the next few weeks, but I am enjoying it now.
...roll on the end of the day

Excellent! Welcome to the Civ II player club! So everything isn't yet lost when it comes to good old Civ II. Unfortunately I have been too busy now to play Civ II. But when I have spare time, I'm sure you can find me playing Civ II.

Here's what I told my cousin:
For me, Civ is the cute girl next door. Civ2 is the girl next door, all grown up. Civ3 is the girl next door with too much makeup and perfume, with no respect for my friends and too many friends I'd rather not hang around.
Oh, and CTP(2) is girl next door with body piercings and tatoos, but once you get past that she's a good friend.

May I suggest, in the same vein as the original, that SMAC is the girl two houses away, wearing the enigmatic expression that's quite simply out of this world.

That's hardly a fair fight - and just not cricket old man.
Only because I should have thought of that myself...

Me, Strange? Nooooo.
Well, to paraphrase from When Harry Met Sally, there are two kinds of women in the world: high maintenance and low maintenance. So what is SMAC? The worst kind—a high maintenance woman who thinks she's a low maintenance woman.

..nothing embarassing to confess (yet ). I've had a self-imposed Civ II hiatus (using train times to clear huge email backlog).
..Work getting in the way of CIV ..UNACCEPTABLE

Terminus - where a train terminates (or starts) a route ...
In the UK today getting guaranteed a train is more unlikely than being guaranteed a seat

It is amazing that the slippers are still comfy after all the wear that they have had through the years........but they are. When someone tries to buy you a new pair make rude noises at them.
