New public discussion entity: City planning and production queus
We all know I can't name anything Give suggestions.
With my limited time in the City Planner arena, I found a desperate need for this. Let's get this a topicof discussion.
Things like who needs what first, benefits analysis, courts vs Libraries...stuff like that.
Sign up if you are interested, and suggest a name.
(if it had been left up to me the Gazette would have been named something like the Termina Times or something equally unoriginal)
Once a name has been estblished I will make a more permanant joining thread.

Once it's been created, I'll put it in the directory.

Great idea UnOrthO.
Wish I had thought of it.
For a name how about "The What, Where and When Society" or for short "W-cubed". OK. Kinda cheezy.

Chamber of Commerce?
City Council?
House of Lords?
Council of Lords?
Rotary Club International?
Lions Club?
The Banana Guild? We could drive around in circles wearing fuzzy yellow hats that twirled in our go-karts.

We could even do the 5 W's Who What Where When and Why.
Lets face it, City Planning IS the game. Without troops we produce, there would be no SMC. Without the cash we obtain there would be no MoE, and no MoS. Without the buildings we build, our lands would be in Chaos.
( I never thought I would, but I had fun with the production, handling the requests... Great Banana!!! I am turning into a BUILDER NOOOOOO!!!!)

Unortho.....
Up for CP position next term....
I plan on retiring at the end of this one for a bit.... still around on the boards, just not in gov't for a term is all.
Need someone who has experience and as you had in your VP job, a rather thick skin.
Don't even need v1.21 as the build time are the same....
Think about it.

Understood.
That is why I must take a term off. RL is requesting my presence more and more. Also, I need a break. Hours of placing orders and more hours sitting in on chats. Lots of time that with summer ending here I need to get some things done.
To whomever ends up in the position, I will be available and more then willing to help out some. If you want to know anything specific or what not, PM me and I will happily PM you back.

Lets see... you know considering we are Rel+Ind, have Sun Tzu, the Pyramids and have a portion of the continent that is too small for my liking a good queue would be:
.Temple
.Barracks (Sun Tzu)
.Granary (Pyramids)
.Troops
.War
.Kill
.Rape
.Loot
.Burn
.Destroy
Erm. Oki, lets be a bit more serious, we will need weapon technology, we need more production to build more troops and we need more cash to pay troop upgrades. So a full queue should be:
.Temple
.Courthouse (Only if production waste is more than 3 or cash loss is more than 6.)
.Pike or Catapult
.Market
.Aqueduct
.Pike or Catapult
.Lib
.Cathedral
.Troops
.War
.Kill
.Rape
.Loot
.Burn
.Destroy
We make a break when we get to banking to build banks and universities.

Yes! unOrtho has been brainwashed!
My favorite is as follows:
[build city]
Defender
Worker
Temple
settler (if needed)
Courthouse (if vaste is bad)
Defender
(settler)
Library
Marketplace
Harbour (if needed)
Colossus
Maybe Aqueduct if unhappines is avoidable and it is really needed
Cathedral
Now why build court before lib.
Lets say it takes 40 turns to comlete each it would take 80 turns to build them if lib is built first.
Now if we build court first then I think if enough shields are available lib would be built in 27 turns.
So that gives us 13 turn to play with.
This is in a city that has only 2 prod because of waste.

As a builder myself, my build queue is usually pretty complicated, because I build a lot of things in the order they are "needed" by my city. For example, aqueducts should be built a turn or two before a city reaches a full food box with pop 6. So my actual build queue is a combination of the improvements required to allow growth or prevent unhappiness (something like temple, aqueduct, cathedral, colosseum, hospital) and the extras (granary, barracks, library, maketplace, courthouse, harbor, university, bank). After Industrialization, factories are to be built before any library or markteplace.

An interesting first discussion for this emerging entity.
I want to be part of this too. Sign me up!
My own contribution:
Conditions for building a library: at least 3 commerce is directed to science in this city (though I would prefer 4). Otherwise it's not worth the investment and hardly worth the upkeep costs.

Yes, The City Council is by far the best name that was suggested so far. Other names are cooler but have less to do with the institute's area of work.

We can still use this thread to discuss what the queue should be.
K, so far we have all agreed that we should start with Temples in all cities. And that the second building has to be courthouse only in cities where corruption is causing a loss of more than X.
(Having wines, dyes and roman ivory, a city this far into the queue gets 2 content faces and 3 happy faces additional to the citizen #1 (the only one that is born content). If we conquer persian spices and incence it would be 5 happy faces.)
I propose that the next thing after that be the marketplace, this is because the marketplaces will help both the cashflow and the number of laborers that will be working without needing entertainers. Which we need as early as possible to speed up the rest of the construction queue.
(Having wines, dyes and roman ivory a city this far into the queue gets 2 content faces and 4 happy faces additional to the citizen #1. If we conquer persian spices and incence it would be 9 happy faces.)
After that the aqueduct, with a temple and a marketplace the city will be able to hold a few more than just 6 laborers, if we build an aqueduct this extra population will help speed up the rest of the queue.
After the aqueduct, we should build libraries which will improve culture and science, they are usefull, cheap and necessary but they dont help in speeding the completion of the queue. This is why I propose they be left after other improvements that help growth and production.
After that, the cathedrals should help the cities sustain all 12 working labores or get as close to it as possible.
(Having wines, dyes and roman ivory, a city this far into the queue gets 5 content faces and 4 happy faces additional to the citizen #1. If we conquer persian spices and incence it would be 9 happy faces.)
1 happy face makes one content citizen happy. 1 content face makes one unhappy citizen content. How do happy faces affect unhappy citizens?

Don't forget military needs. That included defence of the cities.
Here is a link to the other thread.
