Presidential Campaign Thread
With elections starting very soon, and a four-way battle for President, we really should start our various campaigns.
Why you should vote for me...
- I'm always around. I usually check this forum several times a day, and you'll never have any problem getting in contact with me if a problem arises.
- I'm just finishing a successful term as Commissioner of the SMAC Democracy Game, and I think people have been pretty happy with my performance there.
- I stand for peace and general harmony, but if crossed, sending the full might of Apolytonia down on our enemies. This includes one nation that recently stepped on our toes.
- I'll always listen to the advice of my ministers, and won't go off on my own tangent.
- Though I'm up against three obviously very qualified candidates, I feel I deserve a chance to prove myself.
Any questions for me? (or all four of us)

A vote for cavebear is a vote for success!
1. This is just the part of the game I am best at.
2. I am defensive-minded, and that is what the citizens have decided they want.
3. I know how to get into Republic successfully.
4. I always do what the citizens want.
5. I know how to advance our civ in this kind of situation.

Two things are required to prepare for Republic (and you heard it here first).
One, we need to increase shield production. The biggest obstacle to Republic is shield stagnation. As it stands, we have military units that use up shields in Republic. I will avoid that by reducing each city to 2 units (unless they are enough support more), but having the most modern units available for defense in each city.
Second, we have to increase happiness at the time we go to Republic. 10% is a general rate, 20% may be needed temporarily. I know the drill on government conversion to Republic. I've done it many times in Diety games, I can do it again in this game. There is a fine line between going Republic at the right time and being just a turn or two off. I know when, and Republic is where we are going.

I support a campaign of building temples across our empire, in the leadup to a transition to republic. I will also, if elected, support decreasing units in each city to a maximum of two. I would support, in principle, increasing the luxury rate, but it would need to be put to open discussion before I made a definite opinion.

Sorry I have not had much time for campaigning , I have been busy actually doing something for the game, now if I was a city planning minister who never did the job properly, never sent in report, never posted polls , then I would have lots of time to campaign.
I only promise one thing and that is.
If I get re-elected I will stick to this one democracy game and put all my energies into this game, I will not be involved in any other democracy games taking my attention away from this one.

I have already been planning for this change, 12 of our 17 cities will have temples by the first OEDO year after discovering the republic. i would then try and steer our people towards discovering all techs needed for Mikes chaple and build that ASAP.

It was a joke..
Cavebear is my daddy, you see. I am his long lost cub, the result of a passionate affair between him and a married koala bear - which are not actually Bears, but are in fact rather shy marsupials. As such, I have intelligence, like my mother, and good looks like.. erm.. well, that one was a coincidence

I appreciate the family loyalty, dear cub, but I will be the first to say that current President Hydey has shown great skill during his adminstration, that Darkness' Edge has some experience has a former VP and a current Cabinet member, and that atawa has a great deal of experience as a Cabinet member. I suspect any of the current candidates would do a good job as President.
As President, I will naturally do my best during the difficult transition to Republic (always one of the most difficult governmental changes). I have experience in that, and I understand the factors involved.

I believe that any incumbent president who gets voted out of office shall consider he has been voted out of the game.
My future involvement in this game is in the hands of the people, will I continue what i have started or shall I be banished forever, never again to step foot on apolytonian soil.

Oh relax, Hydey. First, you actively requested opposing candidates for the job, and now you are acting like it's a vote of banishment. LOL! You are beginning to sound like a politician.

The Citizens will always decide our individual futures. I always trust and respect the will of the People. I always have, and I always will.
They know that from the first Democracy game, and they will know that in this one.
