I agree that the President should have a true majority of the votes. If a mere plurality is reached, then there should be a run-off election. But I think 2 days would suffice.

I play no cards and used no campaign, the people are judging me only on my performance as president.

I agree. I can't imagine that any candidate would achieve a majority at this point.

If we must, but i'm inclined to think it's a waste of time.
Why bother? It's going to take a few days, and most likely get the same result.
As far as I'm concerned (well, unless I get another vote in the next couple of hours ), cavebear's the elected president.
If we do this majority garbage, then there's going to need to be a repoll every single time we've got more than two candidates.

Oh no you don't... You decided to seek the office and you can't just decide to fade away. The citizens expressed a great support for you, and you have no right to let them down at this point. You have people that support you, and if you withdraw now, how can they trust you again?
Run for election....

Wow, I'm amazed...I've polled equal with the great past leader cavebear!
Thank you to all that voted for me! (and especially for the person that gave me that last vote...when I logged on this morning and saw the tie for second, I was pretty worried )

A tie -- nearly a 3-way!
OK -- Let's get the runoff election started. 3 days should be plenty, yes?
Then we can all get busy begging Hydey to keep playing with us.

former King Hydey has been arrested by Cavebears goons and was last seen heading off to exile in a leaky trireme.

Come on hydey quit pouting All citizens agree you did a superb job and would like very much to see you in office and probably as pres again in the future, but this game is inteded to be FUN and enjoyable for all the players. Haveing someone new in office will be good for the experience of the game no matter what the outcome.
Personally I started to nod off in the last demo game when we seemed to have the same administration for several terms. The variety that different players bring is what really makes the game interesting.
