Production will slow down as happiness reigns. We'll need to complete our temples.
My thought is that we do this as soon as we have Mike's. Now, when might that be????

I'm not voting for any set length of time.
Like -Jrabbit, I think we should wait for Mike's, and also until we've built more temples before we go ahead with Republic.

we need to wait until the president feels that he has finished preparing the cities for switching to republic, i think that it should be a yes or no vote with the understanding that the pres switches when the country is ready

As I always say, we need at least more temples before switching. And the distance for Mike's is a relevant parameter.
So, as the majority of the posts, I think I cannot vote on a year, but on the situation allowing revolution.

We can't go Republic yet. At least 2 of our cities currently have more units than shields, and will go negative. A couple others will go zero. We need to improve production in some cities and complete our temples before revolting.

No, I change warriors into shields regularly. It's just one of those obvious things that need to be done when preparing for Republic, something I often do when I feel like playing a representative deity game. Which I do when I feel I need a challenge.

This shows that the people have already chosen representative government, and rejected communism. The question is just one of when.

I firmly believe that this Republicanism is thanks to the actions of the Apolyton Capitalist Party (ACP), who campaigned in the Old Apolytonia for Capitalist Republicanism (well, Democracy, but whos counting?) - even though we're about 15 million million years late.. we claim this as.. VICTORY!!!
However, the fact that more people voted for the banana option shows how the Communist right-wingers have corrupted the minds of our citizens!
Right guys? You agree with me, right? Yes? Right? Erm.. I'll start the car.

I know, but personally I reject Republic...it is far inferior,in my opinion.
(corruption vs NO corruption)
(shields needed for troops vs 3 free troops)
(IIRC both have the same max%)
(unhappiness due to troops vs no unhappiness)
(extra trade arrows vs no extra trade-arrows)
(at least 20 or 30% lux needed to keep ppl happy vs ?what are luxuries?)
I think the last time I played as a republic was in Civ1.
But I am only one in a crowd...so if I'm wrong you don't need to be affraid.

i voted banana because i don't think we can set a specific date for switching. we need a poll that says should we switch to republic when our president feels we are ready?

I also voted "banana" as the only way to prevent our forcing ourselves into changing to Republic and a possibly disasterous moment. I encourage any remaining or (heretofore) abstaining voters to choose the "banana" option for that reason.
As to exactly when we *do* change, perhaps the President should decide during game play, but I would rather he (whoever that turns out to be) stop a session at an Oedo Year and poll the citizens first. It seems vaguely illogical for Reublic to be imposed on the citizenry.

Great minds think alike... I understood that you stopped at a point to let the citizens decide. I respect that. It was the right thing to do. You've done a great job as President.
A change of administration isn't a rejection of the previous administration, just a desire for a regular change at the top. If I end up winning this election, I won't be seeking a 2nd straight term. Please tell us that you will stay a part of our game. You are valued, you've done a wonderful job.
Our world is better with Peter Hyde in it that out of it....

Republic isn't a bad government if you have big, close cities with large industries. In fact, for waging war, if you have women's suffrage it is not bad at all, so long as your industry is strong. It is great if you need technology but also need to fight. Just take a look at the included ww2 scenario and you'll see how well it works for the Axis.

problem is that by the time you get to such a situation you can also go for democracy wich has the of 0 corruption and bribe-protection.
