Anyone have any idea???
Hi there, I'm new to this board, but a long time civ player. I hate to admit it, but I just got Civ 3 and have been playing it quite a bit lately. I have surfed through many threads here and can't seem to find an answer to this:
I completed the game and won by being elected leader of the UN. Decided to continue playing even after 2050 came around. Once I got all techs and it asked what tech next (actually I think it automatically did it) it did future tech. Well then, I decided to put all into a couple luxuries and the rest money. I didn't work on the space ship because it was not required to win any longer. One turn I get a message that the Iroqouis completed one of the ship pieces. Well being the way I am I couldn't let anyone else build that before me, so I commenced to changing all my highest producing cities that were producing wealth to start making ship pieces. Of course I completed it in no time but after the last piece was built it didn't give me the option to launch it So, every few turns Mr. Iroqois builds another piece and I click the S or hit F10 to view my ship. I hear a page turn, but no screen comes up.
Once you win the game can you not launch the ship because it's not required? Do I need a few future techs researched to launch it (I went ahead and finished FT1 just to see and nada)? I checked on resources and I have them all. He better not get to launch before me.
Anyone have any idea?

I don't believe any civ can launch a ship after a victory. Same goes with winning another UN vote, IIRC.

You're correct - once a win (or loss) has occured, no launch will happen. In fact no alternative winning method of any kind will happen. (A long time ago, I played once until the 2400's, as the sole civ remaining, just to see what would happen with a fully developed world -- never got to the fully developed part but got pretty sick of my foreign advisor advising me to "Make more freinds!").

It has been a while, but isn't the launch automatic anyway or am I confused again. I only did it once and that about 10 months ago.

The launch IS automatic but only if the game is not over. His game is over. He is just paddling about in the sandbox. No further scoring nor further wins.

Aren't you annoyed that you must launch the ship when it is ready? I wish I could delay the launch until I choose to.
It was more interesting in civ2. Even if the AI did launch it before you, you could quickly build more engines and then launch a quicker ship, that arrived on AC before the AI's ship!

In fact score is still calculated (like power or culture) in the history panel, but no more recorded in the Hall of Fame.

My one space race win launched automatically. Which made me think "What was the point of the launch button?" Now I just diable that vic condition. The nukes were ready to fly, the tanks were ready to roll and suddenly the game got turned academic.
