Currency?
I noticed in one of the screenshots that the unit of currency for MOO3 is the dollar. Is this going to be the case in the final version of the game?

If so, why? One would think that in a game that is supposedly so incredibly deep and detailed, a game that is about alien races and empires covering many star systems, the game designers would employ a unit of currency other than...the US dollar. Geez!!!

Well, duh (as the kids say). Of course. But then why bother with any of the sci fi stuff at all? Why go through all the race creation artwork and the ship artwork and all the rest of it and then have your budget in...dollars?

Any "$" symbols you've seen in screenshots are placeholders, per Rantz.

There was talk at one point of a "custom" symbol for the Antaran Unit, but I wouldn't be surprised (or upset) if you just see AU after the currency values in the game.

There's a great joke in the design doc about the name (Antaran Unit); alas, I can't share it.

Come to think of it, though, it may be in one of the data dumps...

The reason to do the sci stuff is some find it interesting and most do not care about the name used to denote the currency.

There is the sysmbol for 'Antaran Unit' which is used everywhere in the screens. If you see a $ it's a very very old screen

why bother with "english" with alien races (if no terran races exist in a certain game)

but theyre just placeholders. it'll be ok.

The galactic currency is the all powerful AU. It stands for Antarian Unit, (and is also the the symbol for gold ).

Xentax, that wouldn't be the terrible pun about AU's being as good as gold, while nobody wants an Intergalactic Orion Unit (IOU).

That's in the backstory on the official site, so it can be posted.
