Starcraft Haters Club
Many gamers around the world consider Starcraft to be one of the best games of it's time. However, I thought, and still think, it was/is incredibly dumb.
The game resembled Command and Conquer too much which had been out for some time. Also, the game lacked depth, there were few units you could build. To me it was just too much like C&C which, by the time Starcraft came out, I was already bored of.
Just curious if anyone else felt the same way and why.

I thought that the game had much more character than C&C. The same held true for Warcraft II. I don't really like RTS games in general (since they're more like click-fests than strategy games), but Warcraft and Starcraft are amusing and entertaining, while many rival RTS games lack the same amount of character.

C&C was bland. SC was not. Simple.

Starcraft is fun, and the 3 sides are fairly evenly balanced despite being quite different. Plus with multiplayer you could have multiple people playing the same side, with all players able to control all units in their team.

I personally think that Starcraft is overrated. Even the "story" within each single player campaign is dumb, sort of like the "story" of a porn film.

Ditto. TA was a hell of a lot more fun to play then SC as you didn't have any real resource constraints once you'd build up your economy and TA had more varied units then SC ever did.

If you don't like it, don't play it....
There are loads of games I think are crap, but I don't start threads about them. I'd rather engage in conversation about games I do like.

Starcraft has incredible depth, go online on battle.net and ask the people (they are quite many) who still play it. There is a living online community, how many games as old as Starcraft have that?

I can't stand B.net games with random people. It seems like it's nothing but hyper competetive Koreans.
I prefer games where being stoned isn't that detrimental. Hence my love of Civ 2. You start doing the ICS and it would take all the reefer in British Columbia for the computer to win.

I thought C&C was a remarkably tactical game,
seriously.
I haven't gotten around to trying Starcraft, but saying it's like C&C won't put me off at all.

RTS's can be fun for multiplay
I did not get into them too much for single play (Dune2 and the like were the ones I single played the most (and C&C and Warcraft 2 I guess((
Starcraft and TA are my favorites for multiplay (With AoE and AoK not far behind)

I stay away from MP, for the reason that everyone does the same thing. In the case of TA, this mean Flash rushing.
TA Mutator has some great AI for the game, which makes those 10 team SP skirmish games. God Bless 256x256 TA maps!

Since when was this a comparison of Starcraft and TA? Good point though.

Why else would someone post a thread called "Starcraft Haters Club"? It just screams frustrated TA fan to me.

I am happy for you, it's really good idea to stay away from battle.net. Starcraft has stole years from my life, it's the most addictive and definately the best RTS ever made, not one of the best. People who even compare C&C and starcraft really have no idea the depth sc has. C&C is a big joke like whole of westwood.
Oh and if somebody reading my post and thinking about buying starcraft, I recommend not to, the multiplayer will ruin your life, you can't have both. If you are into single player, then it doesnt matter what rts you buy, they are all the same if you only play sp.
Yes, Dinodoc the people who play BGH are inferior race, and will be newbies forever . Most of them won't ever find out what sc is all about.

Tiny, have you ever played Total Annihilation or Warlords Battlecry II? Unlike StarCrap, those have a good interface.
Playing an RTS with a bad interface is like using an OS with one mouse button or a browser with no mouse gestures.

There, there St Leo. The pain you feel will get better in time. It's ok to admit that SC was/is better than TA.

I did play Total Annihilation , but i wasnt competive and experienced rts player then, and i only played single player so never got into it. When I got good at sc and really understood the fun of rts, I figured that I should try other more simple rts games too, maybe they'd offer something too. Then I remembered TA, figured maybe I try it out but never got the chance (had no real reason to get my arse up go to store and forgot ). So could you please tell me what's so good about TA? Is the MP any good? How experienced are you at _MP_ in TA(to make sure that you can back your words)?
And finally and most importantly, I have to admit i dont remember TA's interface... but I can't imagine how it possibly could be any better than sc's? Some light on this matter plz, you can also tell about the bc II interface but I don't even know the game.

I know most people didn't like the interface in Force Commander (I did anyway), but you have to admit, the concept of Command Points is better then digging for Metal or somthing.

The first time I tried TA online, the other guy had a hack even though the game said no cheats, he flash rushed me using that.
Of course I had some satisfaction... I selected all of my units, and pressed CTRL+D.
