Through conquest (err, foreign volunteers) we have accumulated a massive workforce that will accomplish just that...but is still seperate from the military
Temples = More people producing, & trading in a city.

Courthouse = Less resources lost to corruption in a city.

Market = More cash from a city (to rush build and so on) & happy faces (more people producing & trading).

Aqueduct = More people in a city, therefore, more people producing and trading in it.

Library = Increased research (future plans) and a cheap source of culture (total culture prevents flipping).

Cathedral = Further production and culture.

Preferably built in that same order, slower cities should rush build one or another improvement. It is after all in slow cities where saving yourself 18 turns can cost 50 gold.

It would also be a good idea to buy workers whenever it is possible.

After that, each of our cities would be capable of producing troops averagely 3 or 4 times faster and generating about 4 or 5 times as much gold (so necessary for upgrades) than they do right now.

I've kept telling everyone that I'm a "centrist/moderate" builder who actually likes to warmonger in my single-player games as much as build for a while now... My favorite civ is the Romans...

The reason this has fallen on deaf ears is the whole rabid republicanism

But, for me, that works.... I like to warmonger as a republic (not a democracy mind you... too much war weariness unless you have tons of police stations).

I think the claims that we should war with the Romans are unfounded....for now. We are obviously far too weak for them at the moment. The Germans are unfriendly and a formidable opponent. We need to end the war of Aztec/America and liberate the remaining American cities. And the Persians should be on that list as well.

However, this conversation has already gone off course from what it was made for, such discussions as these should take place in the War Academy.
