Foriegn Minister's Report: Japanese in 840AD
The Japs have 581g, a Republic, and after play with the Emissary mode, its likely that they will demand 50g for a craese fire (but, ask them for peace, and they will make peace) past the offer, the next time will be 150g! So, my plans are:
A- We should have 4 dips to China, steal Pottery, Iron Working, Warrior Code, and kep the boat near the Japs coast and steal Feudalism,
B- Paid the 50g and have a new peace/cerase fire treaty, and trade with them for the techs,
C- Do plan A, and then paid 50g or 150g for peace with them.
I pefere plan C, but, its up to you!

We can make better use for the money in buying more caravans to bombard China with
Dont steal their tech before we have Monotheism.

We don't as of yet have the resources to wage a war. While our cities are spreading out we have a very low worker count and shields, trade and growth are very slow. Lets wait until we are a littel more developed before we teach the heathen Japanese the wise ways of our nation.

Every additional tech we acquire (throughing stealing, trading, or huts) will slow down our tech research rate and delay us getting to Monotheism, which we need for Mike's, which we need for becoming a Republic without serious unhappiness problems.

That's one of the great things about the Democracy Game discussions - we get to learn things from other people! I know I've learned a few things myself.

Uh, 123john, the High Council gets the save so they can see our situation and create polls. When we started giving the saves to the ministers, one of the conditions was that they not play ahead in the game.
This is probably a borderline case.
In my opinion, your action constitutes playing ahead. Knowing the Japanese price for for peace is not information that the President would or should know before encountering it in the game.
Please restrict yourself in the future. (btw, this is just part of your education here -- I'm not upset.)

Gotta hate it when ministers can't be trusted not to play ahead.

I dont considder this playing ahead as the Foreign Minister did something that could be done this whole turn by the president.
He just send out one of his diplomatic staff to check out the reaction of our neighbours as he should IMO
I think this should be allowed, but off course we can always poll on this

Anything that might cause you to use the Revert command is, imho, not cricket.
Mostly, I just want our less experienced ministers to know their proper roles. Some of this have not been discussed since the middle of the 1st C2DG.

I thought about what John did the moment I saw his first post about the Emissary, but decided to ponder the matter for a few days. If I understand correctly what he described, I do not think there is a problem.
It *seems* to me to be the same as opening the Foreign Minister screen and selecting "check intelligence" to see what techs a civ has, or who they are allied with, or how many cities they have. If he went beyond the initial Emissary screen that demands tribute for peace (or whatever), then it was interactive and should probably not be repeated.
I agree completely, though, that no Minister should actually move a piece, trade in a city unit, buy a Wonder, etc in order to see what happens to happiness. I think it is OK to demand the game to show information, but not OK to do anything that causes the game to react.
Does that make sense?
BTW, I've rigged the saved game files to alert me if anyone so much as clicks on the "cheat" toggle...
