Naval Leaders
Just an idea, probably too late for PTW, but why can't one use leader to make a "naval army" or as seamen put it, a Navy?

This isn't that hard, and historically makes sence. Just have a bunch of ships in your city and let them join the leader there. Then you could armygroup a transport with some destroyers and you get an effective "convoy". Is that too powerful? well defeat it with an army group of subs and you have a "wolfpack". Thusly you could have huge naval battles. All the firepower an army group of carries could have! Midway, here we come!

I think about this when I saw my Battleship become an Elite unit. So sad they canot be used to generate a leader...
But the idea of a naval leader is good, but they will be not so efective as land leaders, because they can act only on water or at coasts. They won't be able to help invading cities directly, but for sure they will rule the seas.
It would be a great adiction.

naval leaders
Its a good idea. However, I would probably only use it for escorting transports. With attack groups, I usually have a complex system set up where about 6 subs are spread out in front and sort of spotting for group, followed by 3 destroyers, and a battleship or two actually sharing a square with a carrier. Then probably a few trailing subs and destroyers to guard the rear.

I wish they could set up a combined movement feature that wouldn't require stacking so I could keep the naval array constant and not have to indiviually move the units. The only constraint would be that the feature would have to take into account the slowest moving unit.

But I'm all for big naval battles, of course that is probably gonna happen anyway when PTW comes out.

The idea for stationary pattern movement on the seas is cool. That would make convoys really life like, and employ the skills of a sub commander to edge between the cracks. However I find it wierd that sometimes I traveling the ocean in my destroyer and suddenly without seeing anything the computer asks me if I REALLY want to attack the Japanese. Should my ships just glide over those subs? Not exactly life like. That would make sneaking into enemy territy under a abttleship, (like in a few WW2 movies) a cool possibility.

I say when a ship becomes elite it should then be able to be updated to a flag ship, then you can have a fleet similar to a land army. Then you could move it as a stack woohoo, heck that alone is practically worth it.

This was discussed a thousand times, but Firaxis still seems to ignore our wish! Or it is technically impossible to create battle fleets, as you cannot "load" an army with units that have the ability to transport units...

That is, you would have a transport unit (army/fleet) carry another transporter (galley...). This sounds... complicated.

Personnaly I think it would be great to have naval leaders IMHO however the a.i. is very untrained for naval battles and usually only uses early age transport ships. Well thats in my games anyway.
