UNofficial Early Presidential Campaign Poll
This is a highly UNOFFICIAL early Presidential campaign poll...
The question is simple...
If you had to decide today who to vote for in the Presidential election, which candidate would you choose:
WhiteBandit
Ninot
MrWhereItsAt
Undecided
Do not intend to vote in this election

As with all polls I start... I will wait until around 5 people have voted until I vote, lest my own vote affect the voting (though this is sorta moot with Apolytonian voting because everyone can see the running tally )

How can you tell? You have to vote to see what the votes are.

If so, that should be in the CoL, now shouldn't it?
I specifically looked through the CoL before I posted it and found that any poll marked as unofficial or at least not marked as official was open and free to be conducted as seen fit by the poster... if you want to ban this type of thing, I can see (based upon the comments above) that it's something worth considering... then why not suggest such a constitutional amendment and get it passed?
Personally, though I wasn't there for any previous nastyness, I don't really see the harm. Most pre-polls are so thoroughly meaningless that's really nothing more than an amusing distraction
And as for whether to start a pre-poll about my race... if I started one about your's, do you honestly think I care if you start one about mine? (though I guess Unortho has now stated that he does) Seriously, the results of such a poll are so completely meaningless that it shouldn't worry even if they have very little "supposed" support from this. The sheer size of the undecided column should be more than sufficient in most polls of this nature this early to easily give anyone the victory....
That said, it can still be done simply for the entertainment value of having something to talk about. If someone is behind in the pre-poll and then wins the election, we talk about how they supposedly overcame the odds
EDIT: And if you really want to know, I voted Undecided as well So no-one's won my vote yet

There was an amendment to, but it was defeated. Then, a "bill of rights" was passed; one of its clauses guarenteed freedom of speech (within poly rules, of course) and another guaranteed freedom to vote in any poll. So, you'd now have to pass two amendments to ban these polls (unless you want it dragged through the courts).

I'd also urge people not to vote in this.
I guess it is your own right, as opinion polls are conducted IRL every single day. But in a small atmosphere like our own nation, I think finding out something like this beforehand could in fact taint the polls on election day.

The official poll on this topic, for convenience...
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=55066
Arnelos, it has just generally been frowned upon, not forbidden. For instance, what if your poll shows a landslide for one candidate? People may drop out, others may feel their vote was in vain and vote differently for real. These are an example of things that work in RL, but are not generally good in this circumstance.

Well, my apologies then. I honestly was not fully aware of the apparent bad history with pre-polls to the extent that many of you seem to find even polling to be a cardinal sin or something....
If it is such a cardinal sin, why is it not either:
1. Illegal
2. At least somewhere stated very publicy that people strongly dislike it.
I've been adding things to a mental list of stuff that is to be found nowhere but everyone seems to simply assume that everyone knows... this now goes on my mental list... (and apparently both UnOrthOdOx and myself see the need for a new member FAQ, so perhaps we could end up working together on it).
As for the pre-polling, if it really pisses everyone off that much, I will certainly refrain from it in the future. My apologies for pissing everyone off, I honestly couldn't have known that polling, an activity enshrined as near to sacred in the constitution, was so strongly disliked when it came to elections.
Thank you

Things slip by...
As stated, enough are FOR it that an amendment making it ILLEGAL would not garner the 2/3 needed.
It would do you good to look over the 'official poll archive' section of the directory to help you in that mental list. The Court also uses official polls to guage legality of items, and it is good reading for any potential Minister or Executive.
