Stupid Barbs!
Just a question.
I had a minor dispute against the poor celts whan one of my subs "accidentally" sank one of their transport - you know sometimes it happens when torpedoes hit - well, they declared war .
So I sent a couple of crusier to teach the "steel way" to one of their cities.
This city was surrounded by barbs in fortress (musket+cannon) and I wondered if, in case of an empty city, the "raging" barbs would take the opportunity sack and settle.
With much disappointmen I only saw the barbs "raging" in the fortress not taking the empty city (for 3 turns).
Is this the usual raging approach?

Barbs love fortresses - they very rarely leave them once they have occupancy...

Were any of the fortresses touching the city or were they all two squares away from the city?

This is especially true when one or several barb leaders are concerned. You should come back with strong attackers and try your luck: 300 gold is nice to earn if you find 2 barb kings at the bottom of the stack. I have never experienced finding 3 though, but maybe someone has.

Their "attack" compulsion comes when they are actually next to their target. Otherwise the "fortify in fortress" compulsion takes priority. (except for that rare one when they walk away, which i never figured out why)
I once got 3 kings in a fortress once. It was profitable
Never four.

Even better, since I thought there were only two there. The third was quite the bonus. It's just too bad that by the time the AI has built all those useless fortification, (or enemy attack platforms, as we call them ) getting the extra money is usually not as important as earlier in the game.
