new ideas
ok, well, maybe not new. I am an old civ2 player that has recently returned to the game. its still a gem and probably the best game in my collection. I remember the days when this was called "addictedtociv" or "cyberaddiction" or something like that.
anyway....i was thinking about some scenario ideas and it occured to me that there aren't many scenarios covering the American Civil War. Am i wrong about this? I know that MGE included a civil war scenario, but its pretty lame. If anyone knows of any, i'm all ears.
I was thinking that a scenario about Grant's Vicksburg campaign might be doable. As i recall, he had an awful time trying to get around the guns on Vicksburg and Chicksaw Bluffs just to make an attack on the town. It took him several attempts any many months to accomplish. I don't know how it could be done, but it seems an interesting idea.
Also, i've had an idea to do a scenario about Hitler's rise to power in the 1930's. Kind of a "Gathering Storm" situation. All I have ever read on the subject is Shirer's "Rise and Fall," but it seems like good subject matter for a scenario. Pit the National Socialists against the Communists, the Republic, and the Army, for example. Maybe have rules.txt files that start with the "shackles of Versailles" and gradually remove them with addtional events files as the game progresses.
Anyway, these are some of my wandering thoughts.

I don't think there has been any American Civil War scenario since Capt. Nemo's one. You can find it in all decent scenario collections.
I think it is still one of the better scenarios out there, and very hard to top despite the fact that it is a couple of years old by now.
I do think, however, it's worth a try, if you know enough about the subject.

IMO, the shortage of ACW scenarios is really wierd - It's a war that would translate really well into a civ scenario.

The CSA wasn't fighting a war of extermination. Besides, there are more scenarios about the American Civil War than about the Spanish or the French (Huguenots).

What about the English Civil War? Now that would make a much better scenario...

PolarisGL did a Gettysburg scenario. I have it, but don't know if it is available anywhere. Look 'round for that, its an interesting one! If you can't find it let me know.

In fact, dear Prom, I am not a Bourbonic supporter. Bourbons give us very bad kings... I only wan to signal that while Castille supported Bourbons, Cataluña and other part of Spain, supported Hausburg
