If you're on a 56K, is it gonna be worth it?
I'm on a 56K, I could upgrade to cable, but I have no reason to yet. If will try multiplayer on a friends fast connection to see what multiplayer is like, if I do like it, I will consider a fast connection, but before I jump ahead of myself I wanted to ask if 56K is fast enough?
I've tried a few CTP games, Unreal Tournament and Quake3 on this connection. For UT and Q3, it was OKAY most of the time. Seemed by bullets were 3 seconds slow though sometimes.
Yet CTP was no good, it was slow as hell, and you'd think it wouldn't be since it's not a fast game. Why was CTP so slow for me and UT and Q3 were not?
Is Civ3 gonna be good on a 56K I wonder?

Simultaneous and normal mode will be ok they say. Turnless may not be playable.

For the amount off time you seem to be on-line, me
thinks the money to upgrade to broadband will be well spend.
I know I never want to go back to my 56 modem, not even to adsl.
ot: status is right, no turnless

What's your connection?
I have a 400KB/sec ADSL connection....... sounds like something most people would die to go back to

400KB/sec are you sure thats not 400Kb/sec? Here at work I'm sitting on an ethernet 2 connection and the fastest actual download I've ever seen was >300KB/sec. Good ADSL or cable is usually rated at 1.5Mbps = 187KB/sec (which I have at home )
EDIT: to the topic
I think its a mistake to not play online just because of 56K limitations.

I wouldn't have used a capital if I were not sure about that
theoretical I can go up to 7Mbit/sec, but I have never get any higher than 400 KB. Which is at least satisfying

Drop the 56k modem, its outdated (and it sucks bigtime). Get an "always online" connection it will be very worth it. You'll probably save money too. I would NEVER go back to 56k modem, it's not real internet imo.

I've never heard of ADSL at that speed before. You must be sitting on top of the junction. I looked and I've found "next generation ADSL" at 4 to 8Mbps (for around $200/mo) but I didnt see it advertised here in the US.
