I was thinking a PBEM Demcracy game would be interesting where there were factions of human players. Sure, it'd take forever....

I believe there was some talking about this some time ago. Were some wanted to have a huge Demo game, were Apolyton is one Civ, and Civfanatics is another Civ...
Though I'd prefer to have small groups of about 5 persons each...

That's be my preference too. I'd rather have 8 civs with 5 players running each than 2 civs with 20.

Or europe versus the U.S. versus Asia, versus ..., you get the point

Restarting is a bad idea. Your best bet is to select starting conditions based on what you know works best. On the ideal settings, most players will get good starting locations. If you make it unnecessarily unfriendly, everyone will be claiming that they had a bad start.
I should know, some idiot (i.e. BirdMan [BirdBrain/VultureBreath]) created a world in Call To Power PBEM that had me in tundra on an island upon which i was destined to not advance beyond the stone age! Stupid BirdBrain!!!
Alternatively, starting two identical games with the players swapped ensures 100% fairness. It has been done in CtP with no complaints :

Hi all,
Been a couple of days since I posted...I feel out of touch.
I agree, first turn veto is fine.
Also, I'm in Cleveland, Ohio USA. Eastern time zone.
Oh, and BTW Alva, I'm changing my Civ of choice vote to random. I wanna be like everyone else.

re: civ choice,
maybe we should all do a random on one of the new civ. Seems logical to do so. I now I would prefer one of the new ones. Allthough I still don't know theire excact traits, UU,.....

Well...I don't think there's an option, that says "random, but only new Civs"...so the only way we could choose random (and only get new Civs), is by making a little random No generator, and says No 1 is Spain, No 2 is Korea, etc...but the thing is, this random generator can only be used by one certain computer (Since it of course generates random numbers on the different computers...)
Or did I miss information, that this function actually is in game?
And btw, I don't care wheter I'll be playing as one of the new Civs or not...I just hope I don't end up playing as England or Celts...

Do you have a 24 sided die? I suppose two twelves from D&D, one just to designate high and low.
But then we'd have to post a list of civs, right?
Like...d12 result (1-6) and the score of the second die
1- The Americans
2- Arabia
3- The Aztec
4- Babylon
5- The Carthaginians
6- Celts
7- China
8- Egypt
9- England
10- France
11- Germany
12- Greece
d12 result (7-12) and the score of the second die
(13) 1- India
(14) 2- The Iriqious
(15) 3- Japan
(16) 4- Korea
(17) 5- Mongolia
(18) 6- Ottomans
(19) 7- Persia
(20) 8- Rome
(21) 9- Russia
(22) 10- Scandanavia
(23) 11- Spain
(24) 12 - Shaka of the Zulu (my favorite leader)
For just new Civs you'd need an eight sided...
Ok, ok...I did play D&D when I was younger...I admit it!!!! I'm a D&D nerd!!!! Arghhhhhh.......

euh Buster, their are only 8 new civs
so using two 6 sided dices are more then sufficient.
2=not
3=not
4 to 10= new civ
11=not
12=not

alva, two six sideds rolled together create a bell curve.
Thus the civ at number 7 wouldn't have a higher probability of being selected than one at 4 or 10. Thus it wouldn't be...technically...a fair representation of a random system.
Check this out:
D 1 2 3 4 5 6
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
2 3 4 5 6 7 8
3 4 5 6 7 8 9
4 5 6 7 8 9 10
5 6 7 8 9 10 11
6 7 8 9 10 11 12
If 2,3,11, and 12 are merely discounted...
Reroll - 6 occurances
4 - 3 times
5 - 4 times
6 - 5 times
7 - 6 times
8 - 5 times
9 - 4 times
10 - 3 times
So the probability of the 7 civ getting selected, including the rerolls is .29 or nearly a third of the time.

Not really, but it would be nice to have an equal chance to get each civ...just to be fair about it.
We're smart enough to do it right, let's do it right, ya know?
Just my opinion is all...

Are you threatening me?
It's gotta suck watching everyone else talk about thier experiences with PTW and you still can't go out and buy it, I know...
If it'll make you feel any better, I still think there's some crash bugs that have to get worked out, even with 1.04.

Lung and I know each other from Call to Power PBEM. He is a trouble maker in that forum! (He is a good mate, really, but don't let him know that!). Anyway I was commenting on the format of randomly starting a two player PBEM match, then swapping sides so that both players play on the same exact terrain against each other. So one match consists of two games. That idea was what I agreed with. It is very fair.
And $80 to buy CivIII plus Civ PTW. I have to find that kind of money!

Hi Keygen! Maybe I will join Civ3 PBEM if I can scrounge up some cash . Does PTW PBEM work? I read a lot of bad stuff about it so far.

Is any offer with both games in one package with lower price?
What I've heared so far is that the online multiplayer has some problems mostly caused by the gamespy network. I haven't heard anything about PBEM yet but I am not sure that people have already test it so who knows

Not yet, there is however the 'game of the year edition'
Civ3--->fully patched and a few other bonusses.
IMO both civ3 and PTW will be sold as package soon

It seems certain now that PTW will be released in the UK on 22nd November.
I plan to get it on the day of release, so would be available to start from then.
If anything changes I'll post here to let you know.
alva: do you know when you can get the game yet? when's it out in Belgium?
