I'm sorry for asking a stupid question but I've pretty new in this forum and never seen any terrains made by Warpstorm

Sorry warpstorm, your watercolour terrain is way better than anything I could ever do, but still, it's not realistic enough for me.
That's why I like the new European tileset. It looks a lot more "realistic" than the current terrain that shipped with the game. Only after seeing the look of the water in the new European tileset did I realize how truly godwaful and gaudy the original water squares are. The other terrain also looks a lot more realistic IMHO. I'd gladly pay for the expansion just for the improved terrain, to be honest, it looks that much better to me. Plus, the resource icons look much better now. The iron icon is still unchanged though, unfortunately, judging by the screenies.

I think its been reported that it will be easier to load scenarios, etc. with PTW. Does this mean there will be an 'in program' method of selecting terrain graphic tilesets?

the watercolorr terrain wasn't though to be realistic...
it's as if a watercolour-artist painted the landscape
and: it's perfect for plaing because you see the units and resources a lot better...
still, snoopy's is my favourite, unfortunatly he didn't submit the terrain art for PTW

Well yeah, obviously.....but that's my gripe. I prefer realism over artsy.

I wasn't trying for realism. In fact, that is the opposite of what I was looking for. I was trying for a style like some ancient maps that I've seen. I tried balancing style with playability.
As far as realism goes, I like SnOOpy's latest best. My only gripe with his set is that his colors are a little bright for my taste. But to each his own. He made one he wanted to play on, so did I. (And I assume Nick, who did the maps at Firaxis, did the same).
BTW, his will be in PTW also.

Warpstorm, yes. I realize that you weren't striving for realism, and that's exactly why I could never play with your terrain.
That's all I'm saying.

proletarian,
obviously you like realism very much. so i can imagine you've got all the animations on.
now, after nearly a year of playing i've seen all animations and only want the pure game. i can't wait 1 minute for the stack of workers to move to the next tile. i don't want to see the AI backwards- and forwards-moves every single turn and so on... my time is too valuable and i want to use it for playing, not for enjoying the running-flix of each unit 100s of times
but for you, i'd recommend snOOpy's terrain: it's in nicer colours (less dull and less yellow) and the trees look so much better.

warpstorm,
first, congratulations to your great terrain-set.. it's great!
and about snoopy's set in the game: i remember a firaxis-guy saying in a chat, that unfortunatly he didn't submit it.
but on the other hand, maybe i'm mixing something up here. anyway: the terrains are downloadable here and at CFC.
thanks again!

Maybe it's just me, but I don't like sn00py's graphic.
Especialy colors and trees.
But, as I said, maybe it's just me.

I checked out Snoopy's mod, it wasn't my cup o' tea.
Actually, by this point I've turned off the "show our automatic moves" option. Watching my men scramble about to their destinations every turn got old quick. I also switch off "show our friends' moves" as of late, too. Although that can come back to haunt you when they send a large stack of knights at one of your border cities and you're none the wiser until they strike..... Now I'm more careful. Although, I do hope that they solved that stupid AI "patrolling" habit in PTW. It really annoys me.

Nope, it's too garish for me too.
-picky, picky-
I tend to find that "official" graphic sets always look so much better. That's why I was so glad when I heard about the new European tileset.

I have to agree. That's why I kept my colors toned down in my mod. I think the European set went a little too far, though. (BTW, the European set is essentially the same as the normal set with a darker pallete).

True, true, but to me the generally darker pallete makes a world of difference.
It just looks so rich and warm looking.....
