Is it ok if we speak in dutch about the dutch elections and political issues? - Page 3

It came into place like most rules... right after a bunch of people thought it would be funny to start a bunch of threads in other languages and swear and insult other people. It was a long time ago... and even now, people still try to get around the rules by doing it. So yeah, because people have acted like spoiled brats in the past, rules had to be put in place. Life isn't fair...

Yes, when *was* this rule of no non-English threads created? I like to think of myself as someone who is and has always been well-aware of all the rules on this site (I've made it my job to know them), but this is the first I ever heard of it.

before the rule existed, there were numerous threads in other languages. not just the finnish ones.

Markos, we don't want to start a club.
We want to talk about dutch politics. Much things I want to discuss contains words that are that specific that I can't translate them.

But I would love it to discuss the current dutch political situation in dutch these days. Things are really upside down over here.

yes, english speaking people can't start their 'own thread' in their 'own langauge' but that would only be an argument if we wanted to start a club or whatsover.

But what I want it to discuss specific things in my native language. If I could speak fluently english, I wouldn't have any problems.

Finally Markos, you should never have spoken in greek yourself as well, if this is that important. I know you are above the law. I even want to respect that. But if you want to enforce the law, you should respect it yourself as well.

Last argument, if we want to get around the censor or use unacceptable dutch words, you wouldn't know anyway. Let me give an example, I won't go against the rules, but you will see what I mean:

imagine I talk about dutch politics:

I'm not sure if I will vote for the "Dit is Onzin" party again. My friend "Hierstaatniks" said that in the 80's prime minister "Vloek Scheldwoord" of this party got a big conflict with "Onacceptabel Woord" of the "Vieze Taal" partij.

You get my point?
Now I ask my question again: is it ok if we speak dutch now and than in the dutch election thread. Not because we want to get around the rules. Not because we want to start a cute dutch-club. Not because we do not respect you as a site owner. But just only because we have a very very exiting political situation overhere in the Netherlands.

And CyberShy... I will consider your "reasonable" argument and give it some thought. But it's hard to seperate your well thought out post from all the other whining here

sounds like "The administrators are the owners and they can enforce any rule they want. If you don't like it, you can go somewhere else"

To be honest. I dislike both rules.
I'm sure Saddam Hussein uses the 2nd argument as well oftenly

Can you imagine these rules being applied to the EU commision or the UN?

"You may only speak in English or Finnish, any delegate speaking in another language will be expelled from the assembly".

Actually I think that would be a great UN resolution.

Our threads do not need any moderation. If anybody is misbehaving in it, I will report it immediately. Like I want anybody to misbehave in my politics thread.

Only in your opinion is there a difference. People get banned for misbehaving, and just about EVERY OTF Dutch poster has been banned in the past for some infraction...

And as far as being mature... that is also just your opinion
