City sphere on Map??
There was a convenient feature in Civ 2 where you could have the game add a white boundry around a city's area of control. Is this feature buried somewhere in Civ 3? I can't find it in the menus but perhaps I missed it. This feature can be helpful at times and I'm hoping it is still around somewhere. Thanks

In the same vein, what about a Palace or Forbidden Palace sphere of influence? Now THAT would really be nice.
Is the normal national border just not definite enough?

It doesn't, at least not in the same way as in civ2. Now your borders ARE you cities sphere of influence.
I don't miss this option though, have you ever noticed how a settler has its own 'sphere of influenc' -> where borders will be IF a city is built on that location.

Yes, but they can often times be hard to see, especially with all of the other borders around and more so if grid is on.

They supposedly fixed that problem so borders could be seen over forests, jungle, mountains, etc., but now it seems like it's back.
There is no way to see cities' city radii on the map. You have to figure out yourself which tile is associated with which city. When founding one city next to several others, I find that hard to keep track of.

But, the national borders aren't always your cities radius. It would be nice to see on the map the area that each city actually controls, but then that would be really cluttering the map. But it was done in SMAC!

I was just thinking about this the other day when I was playing a little bit later in the game trying to get good placement of my cities, and I wanted an easy way to visualize the exact city radii. I was thinking they should have a shortcut key that can switch the overlay between cultural borders and city borders.
Such a feature would be great. I'm sure it would be easy to implement.
So easy, yet so far removed from Firaxis concsiousness. Oh wait, that one's on the "wishlist".

Funny how you could toggle this in Civ 2 but not in Civ 3... I wonder what Firaxis was thinking... I have been playing on a map with a giant jungle region and I have to settle it or the AI's will. Kinda hate that I have to use the strategy since these cities will be worthless unless I aquire large quatities of captured AI workers. Since Firaxis can't figure out how to program the AI's to not always ICS I'm stuck.
It is a pain in the ACE to try and avoid city raduis overlap... Well, if Firaxis reads these forums AND feels like adding a useful feature either to Civ III or Civ IV (Actually doubt we'll ever see Civ IV) I would say throw this much used Civ 2 feature back in...

Firaxis has not responded to this RFE before so I wouldn't hold my breath this time. It is especially a real pain for new players understanding what tiles help production, i.e., inside cities and which are pointless to mine, i.e., outside boundaries.
The new RFE idea to show current influence of FP and palace. It would sure help to able to hotkey/button click to show palace influence in one color and FP influence in another color.
But we have all to become game programmers to make this happen.
